I have a Kubota L5030. While mowing somehow the oil plug came out and all the oil drained out. As evidenced by a stream of oil behind tractor. The engine completely shut down without warning.

After having discovered the oil loss. Oil was replaced but now the engine will not restart. Is there some sort of reset button or something that must be done so that tractor will restart?

Thanks for any help! Tractor is stranded in field.

Welcome to OTT DR. You have come to the right place to get answers.

Does the starter turn the motor over? If not, then it probably engine damage.

Did you notice any unusual sounds (knocking) or smells before it quit?

Did it quit suddenly, or begin to bog down and stumble before it quit?

I recall a couple others lost plugs, either through damage or it was apparently loose.

Unfortunately the prognosis doesn't look real good. Really wish I could say otherwise.

Did it shut itself down by sensing low oil pressure? Did it seize and stop? Did you shut it down?

Does the starter TRY to engage or do you have nothing at all when the key goes to the 'start' position?

No, there were no unusual sounds. No knocking. Nothing. It just shut down. According to my dad who was driving it, it seemed to him like it was some kind of safety shut off. Because it just killed the engine out of nowhere. It was later that he discovered the trail of oil and found the plug missing.

According to my dad there's nothing when he tries to turn it over. It doesn't sound like the starter is engaging with the engine at all.

We were so hoping that there was some kind of safety shut off that could be reset. But it doesn't sound good. :-(

Thanks for all your help everyone.

This is a bit outside of my wheelhouse but, it does sound almost like something needs to be 'reset'. Since there is an engine at stake, I would be seeking clarification from your local Service Department. If it is an electronic lock-out, they may need to be hooked up to it to clear it. Just thinking out loud.

Okay so my dad said that it does click when the starter turns over but no engine noise. Sounds like we're going to have to call for service. It would be nice if there were some kind of reset. But it sounds like most likely the engine is shot. :-( It's not the news we wanted to hear. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Yeah, that puts a different light on things. If the starter is unable to turn over the engine.... but tries to. That darn oil sure is important.

If you are somewhat mechanical, pull the injectors and try to roll it over with a bar.

Is the PTO still engaged?
As that will stop it from engaging the starter. ;)
