Went out to plow snow yesterday, L3240 HST, turned the key and dash display came on momentarily, then went black. Attempts after that never had any display. Presumed my battery was dead, and replaced it with a new battery today, turned the key and no display. New battery has 12.6 v across terminals, as does the old "dead" battery that I just took out. Checked the main fuses near the battery connection and they are all good. Too cold to mess around further with it other than bouncing on the seat and depressing the clutch and HST pedals as a hopeful last-ditch attempt to see some life. Nothing- what am I overlooking, and where should I start to troubleshoot this?

possibly bad/corroded battery cables
easy test, use jumper cables and 2nd batter...connect +12 jumper to starter big lug, groun jumper to engine 'ground', see what happens

I'm with Jay - a bad ground, or another connection is suspect.

COLD also plays hell with the safety switches btw

Thanks for the prompt replies! If the temp gets into double digits tomorrow, I'll head outdoors and check out the battery connection/ground lead suspects, and hotwire the starter to see if it turns over. I'll let you know what comes of this.

You also need to try jumping the trigger wire to the starter solenoid.

This is bypassing every safety feature built into your machine and you can run yourself over or end up with a run-a-way tractor. Best to have someone in the seat with foot hard on brake.

Close... Norwood sawmills are made in Buffalo, NY which is notorious for lake effect snowfalls and arctic winter conditions- Norwood the town is about 6 hours North and East of Buffalo, on the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Thermometer hit 12 and I was out, armed with your combined wisdom. Ground wire disconnected, wire brushed, and reconnected. Found a blade slip connector on one of the positive terminal wires that was also removed, wire brushed and reconnected. Numb, frozen fingers crossed and a turn of the ignition key brought the display to life, glow plugs came alive, and the engine turned over sputtering to life!! Life is good, and so are helpful friends. Thank you and God bless you all!
