Cleaning Mower Deck?

edit* can someone move this to implements forum?

What do I need to worry about when it comes to cleaning and maintaining my mower deck?

I imagine generally the worry would be moisture in the grass that could rust things. However, the other day I had tried using my box blade without removing the mower. Well... even when I used scarifiers on the grass and didn't lower the implement all the way, the mower deck went down with it and went through a bit of the grass/dirt.

Even if I could figure out how to lower them independently (doesn't seem possible), it still seemed like a bad idea to dig into the grass (which would soon be dirt and mud) with the mower attached.

Ultimately, I don't think it got very dirty. Any dirt/mud I imagine will come right off once I cut grass this weekend and the blades start spinning.

Still, want to make sure I maintain the deck as best I can so any recommendations welcome. Thanks!

OK am I to understand you have a BX? If so the control for your MMM that sets how low your deck goes, this is what you need to adjust. Now run your deck allllll the way up and the knob by your left calf has numbers on it, 0 being the lowest turn it to the highest number and that locks the deck in place,, it will not lower any farther than that.
The 3 pt will go up and down with out an issue. when your done with the 3pt, again raise it up as far as it will go again, then turn the knob back to your number where you like the grass cut.
Now cleaning it I use a high pressure washer when its real yucky lots of gobbed up wet grass and weeds and such, or use the garden hose and wash it down.
I will here however remark, to be careful of spraying HP water into the grease fittings yes it will wash out the grease forcing water in and,, well not nice things happen after a while. Come fall ,after the season is over remove the deck, flip it up and scrape or HP wash the bottom then as some guys do paint it, I dont but thats just me. This would be a good time to remove the blades and sharpen them, lay it back down and grease every fitting you can fine some are a little hard to get grease into but keep trying it ill go.
Grease up the drive shaft a bit clean off the PTO coupler and give it a shot of say WD40 or some spray lube.
Then push her in a corner and get set to put on your blade for winter... SIMPLE :D
