Cleaning grass from MMM

Any slick ideas for cleaning the MMM without taking it off the tractor? I was thinking maybe a set of those ramps normally used to drive the front end of a car up onto to give me enough room to get under there and scrape the grass out. Just patched the rust holes a few weeks ago before I began mowing and would like to prevent new ones from forming. Tractor is a mid 1980's B7200 I purchased last summer.

Thanks,
Tim

I need to complete the same job on my 2wd 6000. It has several small randomly placed holes that need to be plug welded. I just use a jack and block up the front of the tractor safely.

I see on most Cubcadet mowers these days they have a hookup on the mower deck where you can attatch a garden hose. The concept being that you hook up a hose turn the water on full blast and the engage the deck and get the blades spinning. They say it kinda makes like a power washer underneath. So perhaps you can look at making your own garden hose port.

Since you just got done patching the deck, I would paint the underside with a graphite paint, then use your car ramp idea and a water hose after mowing.

The lift for the garden tractor may not be safe for that size of tractor ... be safe man. Use the ramps insted and block the tires just to be sure, no sense getting dead trying to clean the deck.

I know you guys are tired of hearing Amsoil stories from me but they have a great product that I have not seen another company make anything like it.
Amsoil - Heavy Duty Metal Protector, I use it for lots of things but one is under the deck of my finish mower. With the under side clean it can be sprayed on and after it dries it forms a wax like surface that grass won't stick to. I spray it on about 2 times per season and never have the need to clean under my deck. Any small amount of wet grass that sticks can be removed with a air hose. This is the 12th season with this mower and no rust at all.

Meanjean,
No front end loader. Wish it had one, it would probably come in handy for a lot of things.

Orange Tractors,
I did paint the underside with two coats of graphite paint. Didn't do a thing for the wet grass. Got a cardboard copier paper box full of grass and mud out from under it last time I cleaned it. Will have to see if it helps when things are drier.

Still have to get a set of car ramps.

Thanks,
Tim

Well it was an idea... I thought it was worth a shot.

My Woods has a less than well thought out rear discharge; grass goes out just about everywhere except out the authorized exit, but suprisingly it doesn't really stick to the underside of the deck. I get a lot of clippings on top of the deck that I have to clean off.

I like the idea of the hose hook up, saw that feature on some of the Green machines too. Bulldog, AMS to the rescue again! Hehe I like the sounds of that though. My lawn has been fairly dry so far this year but I am noticing a buildup of grass in a few spots under my MMM as well. I was going to drop it off the tractor a few times a season and just pressure wash the underside and maybe hit it with some rust control at the same time, but if that AMS stuff dries to a non-sticky finish I will give that a try.

The metal protector is some amazing stuff. I spray it on my disc mower when I store it for the winter. When I get it out for hay season it has no rust at all.

Lowes has a spray someone told me about, just got some didn't use it yet, but it's for mower decks, supposed to make cleaning easy.

Hi skeets, I hope this doesn't start a war on here but the metal protector is made by Amsoil. If you go to www.amsoil.com, click on maintenance, then open the box where it says antifreeze and choose protectants. It will be the Heavy Duty Metal Protector. I use this stuff on any (unpainted) metal that I don't want to rust. I sprayed under my finish mower and it doesn't matter how wet the grass is it doesn't stick to it. I don't know if the deck design has something to do with that but I never have cleaned over a hand full of stuff from the under side. When it dries it's kind of a wax like surface and it's non tacky. As far as lasting goes, I have a spot on the frame of my 95 F 150 where I blew the undercoat off with a pressure washer. I sprayed one coat of MP on it and it's been rust free for 12 or so years now. I have a small steel work table that I welded some 2x2 tubing on for leg extentions. It has been sitting outside in the rain and everything else for 3 yrs and it's rust free with only on good coat. I've been very impressed with the stuff. A little bit goes a long way and it comes in 16 oz. cans. If you try it I would be curious to hear what you think of it. I don't know anything else that does what this will do.

I've often wondered if you took something like Rino Liner, which is a DIY roll on bed liner and coated the underside of your mower decks how well would it work to keep crap off the bottom of it and never have anything stick to it.

Got the metal protectant from Amsoil, sprayed it on the deck, mulched some wet leaves and therre was nothing stuck to the deck. All the grass is dead now so may have to wait till spring to see how it does on the deck. It sure feels slick on the deck.

I'm glad to hear it worked good for you. I feel sure you will be pleased in the grass as well. It has been a good product on everything I have used it on.
