I couldn't find a place to post about odd ball equipment so here we go. What I have is a Chinese generator with a 186FA 418 diesel engine. When I first got it the generator head was inop and I replaced it but doing so i had to install a different crankshaft to match the replacement gen assy I mated to it.
For a while it ran great, awesome even then it started to sound more labored and started producing white smoke. I removed the gen assy from the engine and it still produces gobs of white smoke. I verified fuel timing and valve lash. All in spec where it is supposed to be. It ran great then stopped running great.
As it is now it starts fine, has gobs of white smoke (this is air Cooled btw) and now pops, cracks, and backfires "sounds" from the exhaust.
The injector does spray what seems adequately but I'm no expert. I can't verify the pressure with my limited tools. You all think it might be worth trying a $20 injector before I give up? Junk not worth dealing with? This is my 2nd one and for the life of me I can't get it going like the last one. This one is a 2006 model and was running good till it all of sudden went to crap. Compression seems overall good too. It will stop the rotation of the starter at times and Is hard to pull it through from the flywheel.

install new $20 injector, sounds like it's not 'spraying/ atomizing' the fuel fine enough
all else fails, order 200 of them online for $50 each.....,lifetime supply !

It may not like bio-diesel from corn….. it may need it to be made from rice-hulls…?

I'd also try new fuel. Maybe your last supply had water in it.

If it is cold where you are, also add fuel additive.

I did consider this. I drained the fuel and filled it from a more recent batch of fuel I've gotten. Same thing, and all the same fuel has been burning in all my other equipment. Still going to get more now just to make sure about quality of my stock.
