BX25D thumb top pivot

This pivot point is frozen. I have tried PB Blaster and some healthy persuasion with a lump hammer. The arm modes (with great effort) maybe 10 degrees. Is it possible something is bent?

Can you remove the PIN circled? and remove the other piece?

Before you get to the heat .....

I would spray more and wiggle more - see if you can get 10 degrees to 20 and so on.

I had a similar problem on a FEL pin ....took almost an hour to free it up !


Have you used this much? Or has it been this way for a while?

50/50 mix of acetone + ATF is the best 'lubricant/penetrating oil'. heat the middle, pour into both sides, move arm back and forth. repeat several times. odds are you could have bent the 'arm' section. It looks like thin tin,rolled then welded not regular square tubing(rather deep welded seam in 2nd picture. That would bend before the heafty pin.
I'd disconnect 'arm' from 'working end(thumb ?). Insert bar to lengthen the arm to get more leverage, raise BH up. given lots of 50/50 and some muscle , the 'arm' should move down under manpower. If not, secure end of arm with extention and use tractor hydraulics to 'wiggle' the arm free.
one of those easier to do than tell operations.....

Had the same issue we used a Hotair gum to warm 15-30 mins the outer pin area "NOT" the pin it self... works for us many time expand the hole...when pin is out grease pin&hole before replacing ... Don't use blow torch!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I had easily removed that pin and slid the bar out of the tube- no problem with any of that. I will try again with the PB and brute force. DH

I'm going to try the PB once more... since I already have it. If that doesn't work, I will try the acetone + ATF. Thanks for the suggestion. DH

someone, somewhere did a study on 'penetrating oils', several commercial ones like PB as well as several 'homebrew' mixes. 50/50 ATF/Ace did the best job AND was the cheapest
