Well, my tractor sat quite a while, as I've been mostly out of state for quite a while. My son went to use it, and the throttle lever would not budge. Bummer.

I am home, so I dug into it today. Found it's a pretty simple mechanism. Loosened it up, cleaned it up, and put it back together. Fiddled with the tension to get it where I wanted it. Then spent about an hour doing some actual work on it! That felt good!

But is there a recommended procedure for setting the tension? Or is it just, fiddle with it until it's good?

I used some Seafoam penetrating oil to get things loosened up, but is there a factory lube recommendation?

When I first got my BX2380, it was loose, someone else had same issue.
He told me to put a second nut on it to prevent it from loosening.

Fiddled with mine years ago…settled on a very stiff lever that stays put.
I know what to expect (stiffness) so I live with it…BX25D as well😊

I was not prepared for all of that corrosion.
Yes, I am going to get in there and clean things up.

It's pretty humid here in Virginia, and it does live outside. There shouldn't be any actual rain getting in there, but the humidity gets everything.

I got a cover for it a few years ago, but it has spent most of its life outside.

I need a new place - can't put up another building here due to county regulations. It's a very micro-managing environment. I hope to move to a different county in the next few years, but I'm investigating their politics, first!

For example, we can't even have chickens here unless we're zoned ag, or have at least a few acres. Surrounding counties, no problem. Cities outside our county, no problem. Here? Nope, not allowed. Oh, yes, a few years ago they finally caved into pressure and "allowed" chickens. But the regulations surrounding them are so ridiculous that they effectively bar chickens on anything less than several acres. Setbacks from property lines and occupied structures, inspection requirements, etc. Very clever of them. NOW when people complain, they just point to the regulations and say, "Oh, WE don't ban chickens! There's no problem at all!"

I use the red can of spray 'rust-check'. It's the thin version, so it flows nice. The green cans, it's more gloopy.
What ever you use, be sure to get the joystick mechanisms real good, basically anything that's supposed to move, spray it.

Mine has two nuts. I assumed that was factory.
You make it really difficult for my mind to restrain itself from making my hands type an inappropriate comment.

But on the original topic - I've had my throttle lever work lose to the point of dropping RPM's as I was mowing, had to snug it up. Never had it get tighter though.

Yes, mine had gotten loose, but then after it had sat quite a while (6 months or so?), it wouldn't budge.

Now you've done it!
Made me go look and spray some anti-whatever on mine. Haven't looked at it in a couple years. Hopefully it doesn't loosen up again. FWIW - I really like Liquid-Wrench for cutting through rusted stuff. SeaFoam is a close 2nd.
