BX23S Praying to the Kubota Gods

So I have found myself in the lucky position to possibly become the owner of a new Kubota BX23S, just praying to the Kubota finance department at the moment. I am truly excited and just wish I could buy a little more tractor power wise. Overall price is certainly a limiting factor, these things are not cheap, and with out getting a lot of versatility out of the upfront cost than the piece can't be justified.

Gimmick or not I really wanted a backhoe and when looking last year I kept coming back to the BX25-D. Before going to the local Kubota dealer I checked out the local John Deere dealer, they had lots of nice 1025R's , beautiful tractor but they quoted the TLB option out for $27,750 (CAN) & another $2,800 for the 54" MMM & the first Kubota price for the BX23S was $22,937TLB & $2,012 for the 54" MMM respectively.

Just thought I would share what some dealers in Ontario Canada are charging at the moment, like I said price was certainly a conscious factor on this end and when all is said and done with a post hole digger W/9" auger bit, 54"MMM not drive over, and a BX23S it comes to $25,850 + $3,360 taxes still $6,790 cheaper than the JD1025R

That little machine will work the snot out of a JD,, all you need to is look around construction sites and see how many of them are in use vs other brands. And the 23 hp is nothing to worry about it will get the job done, just remember the BX series is a SMALL tractor, it aint no lawn mower, thought most will never see anything more than that. Once you get the little beasty home and start to play,,,errrrr I mean work with it you will understand. I will say this, if you can swing it get every piece of equipment you think you might need FEL BH MMM and go with it. Remeber that the loss of value for these extras is very small and you wont believe all the things you never knew you need them for :D

I think the John Deere in that size is actually a Yanmar.

I bought a BX2670 right after purchasing my house a year and a half ago. My thoughts were primary uses being mowing, plowing snow and occasional FEL use for moving mulch, compost, etc... The BX2670 was a life saver (or should I say back saver). It made a little of the things we did around the house so much easier and allowed us the time to do so much more!
A couple of weeks ago I traded it in for a BX23S with a factory cab. Debated getting the BX25D when originally getting the BX2670 but figured I had not much use for the backhoe. Boy was I wrong! I have to do a lot of drainage work in my yard plus some other things where the backhoe would work well.
Good luck!!

my neighbor has a BX25D....and I'll bet he put 250 hours on it in the first year he owned it, it is a workhorse, it's constantly out doing things. I help him with round bales, and bigger tasks, he helps me with backhoe work. he loves his BX.

Thanks for the comments guys, I am glad to read so many positive stories on this forum about others experiences with the Kubota brand, and especially the BX series when it comes to doing lots of hours of work.

I was shocked how few hours they included in the lease over at JD when they spoke about leasing, 100hr / year was their standard. I never broached the topic of leasing with Kubota because I want to own my first machine and will only look into leasing something if I end up finding some customers for things like fence posts, lawn cutting, or mini excavating work in the future and actually needed a larger or second machine. In the mean time this will mainly be used for correcting the landscaping situation around our 3 acre property.

I've seen this said about seeing the Kubota tractors on constructions sites before. I don't know if it was you that said it or not, but that part is kind of irrelevant. I've been a carpenter and in construction for 31 years, and have NEVER seen any small Kubota (or other brands) on a site. Skids, yes. Telehandlers, yes, but never a small agricultural tractor. I don't even know what any small sized tractor would be used for on a construction site. Can you tell me what they're being used for on the sites that you've seen them? Just curious.

I love my backhoe. I was on the fence whether I needed it. My first project was to remove all the large rocks from my mowing area on my 5acres. Some that appeared to just be on the surface ended up being larger and rather embedded. Without a backhoe, I never would have got them out. Then I extended a downspout another 30' that was flooding my front yard. With my heavy clay soil, shoveling would have ruined my back before I was anywhere near completion. You won't regret getting the backhoe. It's impressive and useful.

I had a 2370, got it with the 54mmm a 3pt snow blower, fel and a 60 in box blade. . Figured I'd never have a use for a bh so I'd save the $$.. a year later I came to the conclusion that a bh would have been good..(pretty much every time I picked up a shovel.lol) went back in Jan looking to trade for a 25d. ..came home with a 23s instead. Be sure to get the thumb for the bh. Makes it even more useful.

I have. in fact on 3 different occasions on my property in texas, one put in a full septic system with a B series TLB, he then came back 2 years later to put a new septic on my house with an L series TLB, then we had a guy come out and trench water lines and power from my power pole several hundred yards with a trencher attachment on a B series. (really neat tool, but damn those attachments are pricey.) I did ask the guy that did the septics why he didn't go with a mini ex, he said he liked the loader ability and the ability to use the tractor setup for more than just the hoe. and when it comes to filling back in, the FEL makes it so much faster there and he thought the TLBs would be overall lower maintenance and cost to own for his business.

however for what he was doing, I would think a mini X would be the way to go. he also installs tornado shelters etc.

A lot of the small sites will use the snot out of them, last mine site where they were building a new portal they had 2 on site and those guys ran the snot out of them. I guess really it might be a regional thing as well.

Feeling quite spoiled with my new tool / toy, arrived today already put some hours on it, and like a tractor operating newbie buried the poor thing in the mud up to its front axles and nearly the same with the back. Live and learn, good practice freeing the thing with the FEL, BH, and some strong wood.

Awesome! Sweet machine, huh? Got mine buried a little bit this evening. Have some high grass growing where it's really wet. Too wet to mow apparently. Was hoping to knock the grass down a bit so the sun and wind could get to it. Not good. Came right out in 4wd low gear thankfully. More ruts to fix.
