I have a BX-2360 which I bought new in Dec. 2011 and use to mow and blow snow. It has about 300 hours on it and this past winter it started jumping out of 4 wheel drive and then back into 4 wheel drive while I was blowing snow. The 4 wheel driver lever bounces up and then back down when this happens.
My dealer said that the tractor is out of warrantee and quoted $ 1,300. to $ 1,400. to diagnose the problem, plus whatever parts are needed to make the repairs. I called the Kubota representative and felt that he just blew me off.
Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have any ideas about what this might be or a way to repair it myself? I'm stuck here and open to any ideas?
Thanks for taking your time to consider helping with the situation.

My thought would be some wear in there. Either on a gear, or a bearing starting to go where it's allowing the shaft to move.

When does it pop out? Is it when powered applied, or when letting off the pedal so pressure is released off the gear?

It's all in the details :)

We had an old ford truck that used to pop out of third gear. For some reason that gear in the tranny would wear out faster then the others. It got to be, about every 16 months, we would have to drop the tranny and replace that gear in it. That one would pop out of third when you let off the gas. And would do it pretty violently. In other words if you were shifting to fourth and we're reaching for the shifter when you let off the gas, the shifter would smack the hell out of you

Just looked at a project tractor that would pop out of all gears. Had to hold the shifter to move the tractor. That one had a couple bearings out in the top end of the tranny. Ultimately passed on it since it was literally held together with bailing wire and duct tape

It was about 30 miles north of where you got your loader. It was the deutz I told you about. But if your seriously interested, you better call me first. The tranny was the minor issue, the motor had some major issues.

Thanks Darren, The tractor jumps out of 4 wheel drive with power on and pushing the blower into snow. It also jumped out of 4 wheel drive when I was going down a steep slippery hill and the motor was holding the tractor back from sliding.
I'm having trouble with Kubota not doing much to help me with this problem, any ideas about that?

If you don't have the WSM you can get it here: http://kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/in...df&AutoIndex=89736d51e64e8e17f069900396de4182

In the Transaxle Servicing section on page 2-S29, it shows the removal of the 4WD detent ball. This part of the manual deals with the dis-assembly of the Transaxle so I don't know if you can get to the detent without a lot of work. If the bolt is accessible you could remove and inspect the spring and ball. I would have a magnet ready to pull out the spring and ball when you remove the bolt.

If the 4WD has been working and just jumping in and out the detent ball would be a good place to start especially if it is accessible.

While using by tractor today (BX2370) I looked for the 4WD detent. You can see it just in front of the right rear tire. If you move the hydrostat pedal it is located just behind where the pedal linkage goes into the hydrostat. You could remove the bolt without any other dis-assembly, but it would probably be easier with the wheel off.

Thank You Grouse feathers, I'll give it a look.
If you take the bolt, spring, and ball out you should be able to look in the hole and see two notches in the linkage. One notch should be in the center of the hole when the shift lever is in the 2wd position and the other notch should be in the center of the hole when the shift lever is in the 4wd position.

Drain your hydraulic oil into a clean catch pan and see if anything else falls out like gear teeth or bearing cage or balls. Also unscrew the filter and see if there is any foreign material there.
I have repaired two unit in the last several years that did the same thing. Both had failed bearings and at least one had broken teeth.
