My mechanic recently replaced the head gasket on my BX2350d, but it still won't start. Black smoke comes out. Any ideas? What compression is in each cylinder? Thanks

Check your air cleaner and air input passages. Black smoke can indicate inadequate air flow - too rich a mixture.

Wondering why the 23 hp engine in the BX series is having head gasket problems. This post is the 3rd one I've heard of that has had head problems. I purchased a 2006 BX2350 HST that had been in the shop for a complete head rebuild. This was done in the Searcy TX Kubota shop and the bill was astronomical. New valves, springs, head bolts, head resurfaced and oem gaskets for all surfaces and ports. That man paid over $3000 to get it home. He had no instructions on break in and the new console showed .05 hours when I picked it up. The previous hours were documented on the shop's list of installed items. It had 353 hours since new.
So why a very expensive repair would be required with very low hours in service.
