Seems like this is an issue once in a while. I tried to search for info but found nothing. I have just gotten a used 2004 BX23 and I'm changing out all the fluids, filters, etc. The transmission filter screen is supposed to be just to the side of the left wheel, near the bottom of the tractor. It is supposed to take a 12mm socket. I see nothing that small Plenty of bolts but all are 24mm+. I know they're larger than that because that's the largest metric wrench I have. :) I've looked in the Operator's manual but I see nothing on the tractor. The backhoe is on the tractor which may cause vision problems, I don't know. The help of any kind soul who can give more guidance would be appreciated.

See if you can find the bolt that looks like this - loosen and wiggle the entire tube out.
Make sure you drain the system first for an easy pull out.

Also - taking the tire off helps a great deal - but you can get the screen out without removing tire.

Buried on page 100 of the BX23s operators manual there's a couple of drawings.
yup, left side, bet removing tire makes the job easier ! Have to drain it first.....

Yes, fluid is drained and a new filter in place. Didn't want to put new fluid in without doing this step.

85Hokie, I'll look for something that looks like that in the morning...dark now.

Thanks to both 85Hokie and Greensillejay. Hoping for success.

TG - - these might give you a better idea of where to look. Photos are from left-rear of my BX2360.

It’s not difficult to get out. I wouldn’t pull the tire. If loaded with fluid, it might be a handful to deal with and get back on.

I will look again tomorrow, RCW, but so far I have found no 12mm bolts in that area. Is it possible that the transmission oil screen is missing? There is an opening with no bolt. I did not pursue any further than to stick my finger partially into the hole when I first started looking for the oil screen bolt. The metal surrounding the hole is a little rounded and at first, I thought maybe the whole screen was missing but then I thought, oh that can't be. It is quite dirty around the area from soil, etc. If the oil screen was missing, I would've thought that there would be a lot of oil in that area. There is some but it is not enough to be alarming. BUT, I will look again tomorrow and try to get pictures if I'm still not successful. Thanks for the pictures, RCW. I'll keep at it.

Nope, there’s a screen in there if you had fluid in the tractor.
The bolt with the hold-down tab is directly above the screen on my tractor. You can barely see it in one of my (poor) photos.
The “hole” you referred to gives you a place to pull the screen out after the bolt and keeper tab are removed.
It will be fine in good light.
Trust me. Have done mine 3 times in 7+ years.

OK, RCW. Maybe the bolt and hold-down tab are missing but the screen is still in there? Is that what you're saying? Again, I"ll look tomorrow and get pictures. Thanks for helping. I'll get there.

Another issue is that there is a MMMower on the tractor, too, so it's a little tight. :)

Your tractor has a different style than their tractors have, here is a parts breakdown of a BX23D suction screen. It takes a 26mm wrench to unscrew the screen.
There is an O-ring on each side of the Suction Pipe that set in a groove on each side.

Aw, shoot. Thanks tiger.. I thought about double-checking her tractor’s spec too, and obviously didn’t.

Thanks for correcting it.

I will have a look referencing that diagram, but this parts issue doesn't make sense. The nameplate on this tractor says BX23MLB which means mower, loader, backhoe. I get that. BUT, on Messick's site, there is no resource (that I have found) for parts for a BX23...only BX23D.

When I went to the local dealer to get super hydraulic fluid, I questioned on this issue and they insisted I had a BX23D. The seller (a dealer) had a manual sent from Kubota. The cover on that manual says BX23, not BX23D. The illustration there shows the oil screen filter with a smaller (12mm perhaps although no sizes for bolts are listed) bolt at a higher location than this diagram from whitetiger.

At that time, I got a slow blow fuse because this wiring is not right and I discovered that slow blow had blown and didn't want to be without protection for any other electrical problems. When I got home, the part they sold would not fit....leg "stems" are just slightly too wide. How many other things are going to be different? Sadly, I am not enough of a mechanic to figure too many things out...I have to look at pictures and diagrams....and rely on the kindness of those who really know to offer help. I'll give it another try in a little while...at least to locate. Then, I'll need to get a 26mm socket. :-(

Thanks so much for the info. and guidance. I'll get there. :)

Borrowed a 26mm socket from a neighbor who has been so kind to help. Got the screen out...lots of metal fragments from where someone had stripped the transmission drain plug, causing a continual drip of fluid. That's my next issue to fix. Hopefully, there will be an end to fixing others' errors or lack of care.

Thank you all for the help. As they say...priceless.

Their web server has looked at my ISP address( yea, Canada) and then decided NOT to sell me parts !!! Guess it never occoured to them I could be an American, stuck in Canada(Cv19) and needing to get order parts for my Kubota, broken down in Michigan ???

Oh, I hate that. And, I don't get it either. Do they not sell Kubota parts in Canada? Too much.

Actually, I've tried that site and can't really see any "illustrated Parts" other than for the implements/attachments...nothing for the tractor...at least that I could find.
Here is what you would have seen jay:

And, NIW, if you don't mind...how did you get there? I went to Kubotausa.com, agreed to terms of service and could not see parts for this BX23. I'd love to know how to access that, if you have the time.

Try this link:
Agree then just use BX23 nothing else then look on the list for BX23D.
NIW, craziest thing I ever saw...I've been to that site but opened only the local parts...I guess that's why I only saw implements. Thanks for the help. I did look, by the way, under transmission but didn't come up with the page that showed the oil screen filter. Guess I'll keep looking. :) Thanks again for the help.

Kubota loves to have odd locations for similar assemblies. Transmission or case may be similar views of that, with transmission being the inside parts and case being the outside parts. Sometimes I just start at the top and look at each one until I find what I want to see.

A BX23MLB is a BX2230 with a Mower, Loader & Backhoe installed as a package when it was sold new. With factory-installed MLB brackets, the tractor becomes a BX23D, so any BX23MLB is also a BX23D.
You can look under BX23D or BX23MLB.
Just do not confuse a BX23D and a BX23S as they are different machines.
