So i did some searching on here but this tractor doesn't have a whole lot of info here.
My new to me BX needs front tires. I need some help on what to get. Currently it has one OEM turf and one replacement which is nothing like the original. Drives me crazy. I like the look of the AG tires and the more aggressive tread but I am not sure if it will be appropriate to my needs. I plan on mainly just mowing the grass but because I have the FEL I plan on doing some brush clearing and grading in the wooded areas. Will the turf tire be ok for this? I have a big snow blower so I don't think the old girl will be used for snow removal if that matters.
The rears are in ok shape. They too are the original turf type although they look a little misshapen to me. The wheels themselves have significant rust bubbling and I would love to remove them and blast them and repaint. Eventually.
So, is it advised that I just stick with what came with it or swap to something more? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Because of your "replacement" tires - it must be hell on your 4WD :)! The trick with replacing tires/rims etc, is to get the correct ratio throughout the tractor's internal gearing.

Because of your "mainly just mowing the grass" - and the fact that the rears are still "good" - then you might want to go back with turfs (paired) on the front.

If you want a little more "traction" yet not tear up the lawn - I would suggest R4's all the way around, in my opinion - the negatives of R4 are so small over the turfs that it is the best way to go. I have turfs on one machine and R4's on another, there is no comparison between the two - I lose traction on a damp hill with the turfs in 4WD and dont have a problem at all with the R4's.

Pricing all that to switch would/can be a huge money pit. But if you plan on using the 4WD in your tractor - I would get the tires at least to the proper size and shape.:)

As for the rust on the rims, if not too bad- it is possible to repair them with the tires still on, mask off the tire and paint after the light sanding. If however the rust is too bad, then take them off and get them repaired throughout.

thanks for the reply. What is an r4 tire? Also the stock tire size seems hard to find 18 8.5 8. What does the last number denote? I ask bc it seems a 18 8.5 10 seems more readily available. Is that aspect ratio? I would love to do all new tires but they do seem pricey.
I have noticed that traction is lacking in some areas of my yard and 4wd was needed. Not sure if it's a tire or weight issue. It came with turfs so I may just stick with them but maybe a more aggressive style.

I didn't understand the number either so I looked it up. First number is the approximate height. Second number is the approximate width. The third number is the rim diameter. I don't think tires for a 10" rim will work,:(:(

I have R1 (Bar) on our BX2200 and R4 (Industrial) on our BX2660 and John Deere 1025R and the difference in traction is only slightly different in mud or loose plowed ground. On bigger, heavier tractors it is much more noticeable.

Limited by rim size it seems. I wonder if I could pick up a set of newer 10"wheels. I don't see why they wouldn't work. But I'm finding that parts for these tractors is scarce on the Internet. And what you do find is either ridiculously far away or expensive.
Can you use a bar type tire in front with turfs in the rear or is that not acceptable due to the 4wd? I would like to upgrade the fronts and wait to afford new rears. But if that's not an option then so be it.

Check with your dealer on the tire sizes. Through you dealer, tire/rim combinations are cheaper through "whole goods" than tires alone. I just bought a spare for mine.

Ok I will see what they have to offer. Considering both my wheels need to be blasted and refinished and tires it may be the way to go. Thanks!

Just a note. You don't want 2 ply tires unless all you are doing is mowing. Any fel ore 3ph work needs to have at least 4 ply.

And another note. On my bx 2670, the front wheel is a different size if the tire is an r4. The outside dimension is the same as the turf but the wheel size is different. I have an extra complete wheel and tire assy and just swap it out as needed.

Well the dealer did me a solid and found me a set of take off fronts in a 10" size. So I ordered new turf tires to fit and am waiting for their arrival.
I think I saw a set there also which already have the more aggressive tires on them. I may see if I can get those as well and source rears too. Maybe have a set for mowing and another for heavy work.
