BX2200 gas tank question

I accidentally dropped the plastic cap to the diesel gas can into the gas tank on my BX2200 and it immediately sank. I've tried to fish it out but cannot locate it and, based on the shape of the tank according to the manual, I'm guessing I won't be able to find it. Does anyone know if it will hurt anything to be in there? I'm hoping it's too big to cause a problem, but I'm also new to tractors.

If it falls to the outlet then yes it will cause you a world of grief.
find a steep hill or jack up the opposite side of the filler and try and get it to fall over there where you can fish it out! ;)

Tilting the tractor / tank is not the answer.

The tank on a BX2200 is quite convoluted. Part of it is under each rear fender and it comes together in the middle with a deeper part that probably holds the dropped cap.

It shouldn't cause a problem, but if fuel supply becomes an issue, you'll know exactly what it is and then can affect a remedy.

The tank will have to be drained, removed, and inverted until the cap drops out.

Here is a view from the parts manual.

Thanks, GWD. I just tried both a steep hill and ramps, neither of which worked. I assumed the same thing when I saw the layout of the tank in the manual...that it's dropped down into the lower middle part. I guess I will just hope for the best! I appreciate your help.
