BX22 4wd issue, traction issue

I noticed on a slight hill, only one rear wheel started spinning. I always have the tractor in 4wd and now can't make the smallest incline. I took a peek underneath and it appears something is missing. A shaft from the front axle pointing toward the rear is just hanging there and the shaft from the rear axle going forward also appears that it should be connected to something. My guess is that something should be connecting these two shafts but there's nothing there. Searched all over looking for a piece anything on the ground with no luck. Any help on what I might need to do would be great. I live very remote, so getting it to a shop is the last resort.

From the sound of your statements I'd guess your mechanical ability is not very much. This is for a mechanic type person. For one thing running in four wheel drive on dry ground puts extra strain on that drive shaft putting power to the front axle. If you don't have a mechanic friend, call the dealer.

Sounds as if your coupling has come apart. Can you upload a picture?
The shaft has two coupling joints (somewhat like a cv joint) and a shaft connecting to each.

My guess is you lost this piece...I kept losing the cotter on brush and then the retaining pin would fall out. That's what goes inside this plastic shield on the front axle.

Oh and you have a little metal petal on your left heel just under the front seat and that locks the rear diff...Assuming that's the same on the 25...

Yes! That's what I thought went there. And looks like an easy fix. To bad I can't find the one that fell off. Thanks guys.

You can order a replacement knuckle, shaft, pin and cotter online... Messicks is good...Your dealer might be able to help.

Found it. I'm assuming that C shaped pin snapped and is supposed to go all the way through.? Thank for the help gents!

The same thing happened to my BX last fall. REALLY freaked me out when I lost 4WD all of the sudden. In my case, the pin fell out and the shaft and yoke just separated, but did not fall off the tractor. Five minutes later, I was back up and running.

JB2, that pin that holds it in place... is that a roll pin? Have a center that's open? If so, when you get it back together, run a piece of wire through the center of the pin and wrap it tight so the wire is out of the way. The pin will then stay in there!!

An alternative to wiring the roll pin in place is to drive a slightly smaller one inside of the one that is there. It is a pretty common practice for locking roll pins. The smaller will have to be driven out first before the larger can follow.

I have seen where they put 2 roll pins in it and wire it too!

I did a search for Kubota Illustrated parts on Internet for my BX for that part and it showed the U joint that apparently was dropped. I fond that diagram at: http://kubota.com/part/parts.aspx

Part numbers also show there.
