My BX1870 typically starts when cold, but when hot, it behaves like one of the safety switches isn't happy. I.e., turn the key and get a clicking sound, but engine won't turn over. The previous owner bypassed and removed the drive and PTO safety switches, and I have check the seat position switch, which is OK. About 30 seconds after turning the key back to the off position, there is a sound like a solenoid switching seeming to come from the left side of the engine.

Any suggestions?

The click sound that you are hearing is your fuel shut-off solenoid returning to its default position of RUN.
The seat safety switch has nothing to do with the engine cranking over.
Check the voltage at the small starter solenoid exciter wire with the key switch in the START position. It should have battery voltage. If not you have a wiring problem, if it has battery voltage, you have a starter failure.
