BX1800D PTO needs work. When engaged it makes a loud slam in to gear and a very loud noise while engaged. Don't if it is the clutch or broken gears inside. Can't locate any manuals on the subject. Any advice / comments?

When you engage the PTO are you stepping on the clutch pedal?

The BX series has a hydraulic activated PTO engagement. Could a bad bearing supporting the PTO shaft or clutch causing your issues?

I try not to jump to conclusions, but this is the OP's first post. There's a part of me wanting to ask if the PTO is being engaged at PTO speed rather than at idle.

Ditto.. BX2230 is same design.. I always engage PTO with engine at idle speed.

If it were to be engaged (live PTO, hydraulicaly controlled as mentioned above) at high engine speed, it would be a h*** of a slam on the system and attached driven equipment.

Other than some background gear whine, it should not be making any loud noise once engaged.. (Would check this by disconnecting PTO shafts and see if still making loud noise with nothing connected).

Same deal for the forward PTO output that drives the mower deck (BX has two separately engaged (rear only, front only, both) PTO output shafts, the rear one a 540rpm and the center forward a 1000 rpm drive.)

The slamming engagement and very loud noise occurs when at idle engine and standing still. Something definitely wrong inside, just not sure where to start. Maybe PTO shaft bearing or clutches. Thanks for the comments / suggestions.
