Hello all! Can anyone provide advice on how to get the starter out/away from the engine with the various obstacles, sensors, braces, frame, engine mounting plate, etc.? I have the wiring off, the hood/headlight front frame off, right side vertical bar loose and tipped out, starter is unbolted from front plate, BUT I can't get enough clearance to back and tip the starter away from the tractor. I'll try to post pics too. I've searched forums, youtube, and a bx1800 shop manual online without finding details on how to get it out. Thanks in advance for any tips and advice! :/ :)

Here are some pics of the issue...

Front, flywheel, engine mounting plate and rubber mounts, tip of starter.

Side, side bar brace, sensor behind starter, no clearance

Another view seems close but tip of starter is hitting flywheel while back is stuck also.

Should I take the starter apart in place?
Remove back sensor?
Do I have to lift engine?
Remove the flywheel and or front mounting plate?

Removing flywheel seems like most straight forward way but I'm a little nervous of the actual process and proper reassembly.

Thanks again for any advice.

Well folks I got it out.

Removed that sensor and oil filter. Some wiggling and twisting and it dropped down and back to be able to remove. Now hopefully it actually is the starter at fault and I didn't mess up by not testing a couple wiring items. Lol

Same challenge. Removing the starter either meant pulling it out the front by removing the flywheel and front engine mount plate or out the rear where the other engine components got in the way. I wish Kubota had made this more serviceable.

I removed mine from the rear as wjawha outlined above. You have to remove the motor vibration weight (that heavy hunk of metal engraved BX1500 that sits above the motor. I guess it's to counterbalance the motor and reduce vibration, but I could find neither the weight nor mounts in the BX1500 parts list. And I discovered that the smaller mount on my tractor had broken so I had to weld that back together as well.

The counterbalance weight mounting bracket needs to be loosened below the starter. You can remove the top two screws, but the bottom ones can only be loosened to make enough room to remove the starter unless you want to remove the entire motor from the chassis.

Also remove the engine cover and the flywheel shield in the front to gain access to the starter bolts.

Then remove the oil pressure senor and oil filter (drain the oil first!) and the starter can be wiggled out and replaced. My tractor has the front loader which adds to the levels of obstacles, and I was able to do this without removing the loader.
