Well I screwed up and had to replace the PTO selection gear shaft in the transmission on my bx2380. What a job. Split the tractor and took apart the transmission. While I had it all apart, I was digging for the metal chunks and found a small spring and ball in the bottom. Best I could think of is that this is a pressure relief somewhere. However none of the diagrams show one in the pieces I disassembled to do this job. Any ideas where it might have come from?

It looks like it might be a pressure relief thing. But I can't figure out where it would go. I don't think it is internal to the transmission.

They are one set of the detents in the trans-axle; there are several of them.

That is not a pressure relief spring or ball, they look different than that.

That is a detent spring and ball.

Where in the trans-axle? I didn't take apart anything in the lower portion of the transmission (the axle). I only did the front and back plates. I can't find a diagram showing any of these in the transmission anywhere. The only springs I found in the diagrams were on the hydro pumps.
