It's not that the additive's solve fuel problems, it's the fuel sending unit rusting and that rust getting into the filters. Knowledge, complaments of someone else.

Roy, filters are cheap and easy to change, do it, you might be able to get away without doing it till the day you get rid of her, but really do you want to take the chance of being out doing something and have to change the filter laying in the mud some place?

Skeets: Now Sir what is so easy about changing the rear filter? Due to that shield with tight bolts on either side and the strong need for enuff room to work, both rear tires have to come off. Oh yes, that mounted belly mower has to come off first also. Then come the frequent need to change. My last set of filters stopped the tractor at 16 hours. All fuel going in is filtered through a screen funnel so small no water will pass thru. If I hadn't added a valve just below the tank then without that stopping off the fuel with a pinch clamp is not the best idea in the long run. I see no rust or other gunk in the filters.

I had been finding the tractor quit running when the fuel level dropped below the injectors, so I changed the fuel pump figuring it was "weak". Adding fuel brought it back to life before the pump change. Now I am planning on installing a second fuel pump in line to see if that helps. Otherwise the Eastern Canadian member's method of adding a larger fuel pump may be next project. This BX with 200 hours on it and many many fuel filters, I hate to trade it in to sick this on the next owner..

Of the many tractors I have had I never had to change any fuel filters for them, I am soured on this BX model. It "sucks".

I have almost 300 hours on my BX and I have never changed a fuel filter. If you are using straight No.2 Diesel and not a trace of bio fuel in it you should be okay at least as long as mine has gone. BTW, the fuel that you use really does make a difference. Bio fuels have a habit of attracting water and also has a cloud point at higher temperatures than straight No.2 Diesel. Bio also has more esters and wax than straight No.2 Diesel and those tend to clog a filter rather quickly.

Now Im sitting here scratching my head about the filter your talking about. The rear fuel filter is under the chassis, left hand side of the frame takes about 20 min to change out and thats taking off the mower deck. If you have a skid plate well sure you have to remove that first,, but taking off the back wheels???? Ya got me confused on that one my friend

If you've done a bunch of them and have a good hard work area and a way to lift the tractor, yes, 20 minutes. Having a loader makes it a little easier. A TLB is really easy. Lift the front with the loader bucket, the rear with the outriggers.

For everyone else, an hour.

Assuming the fuel is clean when it's put into the tank, and assuming that the tank has no debris in it, the filters should never need to be changed. But those are two big assumptions. Have seen them go hundreds of hours on some, and 10 hours on others. Lot of it depends on how good the fuel is that's going into the tank. Sometimes the jugs have stuff in them that you can't see. Sometimes it comes out of the pump at the gas station dirty. Sometimes a leaf drops into the tank while filling, and sometimes grass/mud/dirt gets into it while the cap is off. For those cases, that is what the fuel filter does. Protects your engine (pumps) from contaminated fuel.

If you suspect that there's stuff in the tank, pull the tank and flush it out real good. That in itself is a bit of a chore. I always suggest filtering the fuel before it goes in on the BX's because of the inconvenience of having to change that rear fuel filter and/or pulling the tank for flushing.

I've never bought into intervals based on time alone. Service IMO should be based on usage miles/hours. I changed both my BX filters at 200hrs which was about two years of service. Both appeared to be very clean after those 200 hours. The whole process including bleeding at the pump took about 30 min for both filters. No jacking up needed just changed the first filter on my back and the second is super easy access.

When I bought my BX, I joined this site, and one of the first posts I read was about fuel filters......

then I bought this :
http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Funnel-AF1...1445004367&sr=8-3&keywords=fuel+filter+funnel

I am amazed at the little stuff that I toss out in the last few droplets.

this statement says it all "I always suggest filtering the fuel before it goes in on the BX's because of the inconvenience of having to change that rear fuel filter and/or pulling the tank for flushing"

excellent choice of words Lugbolt!;)

Hey folks, sorry to bring this back up. I did so some searching but cant find my answer.

The two fuel filters - are they just a general inline filter I can buy at most auto parts places?

they are very similar to those...... but, being the stickler - I got mine via Kubota, I am sure a "off" shelf would work, best make sure the nipples are 8mm or there abouts to fit the hoses.

I changed mine a while back - and placed a 1/4 turn ball valve BEFORE the first filter - makes it a hellva lot easier to change them......sure you still will have a hint of "ol spice diesel" on you somewhere, but at least you will not be drowned in it!:)

Thanks guys....

Dare I raise the "oil filter" question? - Options other than dealer as I am far away from my dealer.
Engine oil.....
Synthetic.....

Rotella makes some good stuff.....
T6 - 5W-40 works well all year long;)

Filter wise....well - order a bunch off ebay or Messicks or Colemans......Napa gold works ok too.
