High here today was 9F, -3F this morning. Broke a 1977 record for coldest day.

Looking at the Canada/US map, that'd be a sauna for some folks...

How cold is it?

It was a balmy 18 F this morning.....enough for me to say "no way" - then again it was still - no wind, which seems to make it a little more bearable....I cannot even imagine what is feels like in the negative numbers and a wind blowing - my handssss just froze up just thinking about it!!!!:D:)

We're breaking records here as well. Very rarely do the temps stay below freezing during the day. Average is 20's at night and high 40's during the day in this area. Past couple days have been a high of 30 and 14 at night. Tomorrow is supposed to be a balmy 37.

This weekend is supposed to be in the low 20's during the day and low teens at night. Been really busy and haven't had a chance to clean the chimney. So first thing Saturday, the chimney will cleaned so I can fire up the wood stove

Hokie and Daren -

Makes me think of a couple years ago when our average temperature for the month of February was 9 degrees F......for the WHOLE FRIGGIN MONTH!!!

Given our location, folks north of us probably had averages below zero, for the month - that hurts....

The old saying is it's too cold to snow.....the folks downwind of the Great Lakes would differ......Hokie - I blew snow a few years ago at -8F, and we're mild compared to others....

For 20's in Arkansas is really brisk!!!

The last winter I spent in Vermont was brutal. For a month straight it was sub zero temps. High for the month was -20 during the day and dropping down to -50f at night  Outside work was limited to 10 minutes at a time with 20 minutes of thawing in between.

Parked the car in the garage for a couple weeks and was driving my truck, or the plow truck. Went to use the car and the tires were froze to the concrete  Car launched out of the garage when the tires finally busted loose :D After that winter, I said "screw this!!!" And moved back south.

It's cold here too.....about 30. :)
I moved here in 2005. I haven't shoveled snow, had frozen pipes or had a vehicle not start.

You're a smart guy. I moved in 2005 for the end of most of those situations.
You can keep that cold sh*t up north.

Bangor, Me was on the National news -26F we are North of there about -30 for us. Son working in Greenville, Me had wind chill of -43 during the day working. I've got to shovel someones roof off in the morning. Snows to deep and its to cold for the old L260. At 60 I might not shovel roofs for many more years!

Show-off!:p

Was just thinking - Christmas day of 1980 was -36F at my house. Only vehicle that would start was my 1967 Chevy Caprice. Jumped my Dad's '78 F250 off it...

Skinning deer last night and it was 27 thought that was cold enough and it was to freeze all the water I was using to rinse the deer.

Couple days left for us so out to bag some more does tonight and the clean them forecast mid 20's tonight.

It's just zero here now as the sun goes down. High might have hit 3 degrees F in the "heat of the day". I was out fixing the hydrostatic linkage on the Bolens HT fitted with the little blower. Bare fingers handling cold bolts and fiddly E-Clips. YIKES!

Cleaned up the drive after the repair. then did a bit of shovelling. Washing tingling hands with very warm water was a treat!

The cold air is to hang around for another week. Winter!

Christmas was somewhere around 0 with a stout breeze. I got up in the morning to patrol the windbreak for rabbits and to check for trees that need cutting. I spent the afternoon blowing up Goliath and tannerite with my nephews.

It's warmed up to -14°C now. The last couple of nights were closing in on lows of -40°. Oh well, at least that's too cold to snow...

My place in northern AZ has been down to -18 in the past, but it's incredibly warm up there now. Neighbor sent me an e-mail saying it was mid 60s today, and he threw some corn out for the deer (over the fence onto my property) and these guys showed up for a meal instead.

Bill, I'm glad we don't have any of those critters where I live... yet. I keep reading that they are moving northward though.

I don't really want to make any of you jealous by saying that we got to 56 degrees here today, so I will throw in that we are having some terrible wind gusts and a lot of rain. I hate the wind more than anything because every year I have to replace roof singles because of it.

Anyway, I wish all of you a safe new year.

Joe, these javelinas are not destructive & invasive like the wild boars other folks have trouble with- smaller, (around 40-45lbs) they're actually kinda fun have around & to watch. Some folks like eating them, but I've never found a recipe that works for me. Fun to hunt with a big bore handgun.
It was 78 here today.:)

Lil foot Ya know since I was a wee lad and saw my first movie with Fred Bear taking javelinas down south some place, I have always wanted to hunt them with a long bow. As i remember from the movie they were some pretty tuff critters
