Hi I have a Land Pride BB12 box scraper and have broken one ripper tip and lost one completely. I am unclear how they are held on and how to replace them. I called my dealer and they said to mash the joint with a ball ping hammer. The replacement tips I ordered have holes in them and the ripper shank end has a dimple. Any thoughts?

If I under stand right the ripper teeth "snap" onto the dimple of the shank.
Use a hammer to drive the new tip on.

And avoid going in reverse with the teeth down, it will just pop the tips right off! ;)

The edge of the sleeve of the tooth should line up over the dimple. Take a hammer and beat it into the dimple. Done. Ignore the hole. If the edge of the sleeve does note line up with the dimple, you have the wrong teeth.
If your shanks have plenty of steel where the tooth hole is, you can always drill the shank, and use a bolt or clevis pin to hold the tooth on. It would probably work OK, but seems more bother than just getting the right part.

Thanks once again for your response. Bulldog, thanks for the picture. Mine are different on the top...notches vs. holes there. Gpreuss and Wolfman, I think you have reinforced what the dealer told me. After removing the dirt from one of the shanks that was intact, it does look like it was just hammered in place. And you are right about going backwards...I think that's how I broke them off in the first place or maybe it was the giant rocks in the field. I wish the dealer would have told me that before I destroyed two tips....but live and learn I guess. You guys take care and thanks again!

I have to replace 4 teeth. The old teeth were very difficult to remove as they were peened on and I ended up cutting them off with a grinder. It is my hope that I will never have to do it again so here's my questions.

Is it better to peen or weld?
Does peening require heating the new tooth to redhot?
My preference it to tack weld in 3-4 places but I'm unsure that it will hold.

A half inch of weld will hold them on, if it's a good weld. Clamp them on, and apply downward and backward pressure, as you weld. THat way there is no looseness of the fit, that can cause the tip to move, as it is used, stressing the weld.

IMHO, I would Peen them back in place.
Welds break under that stress and hammering, it's hard to get a good weld on them.
