I picked up a used Bush Hog RTS50-03 tiller today. Got it for $500, don't think that is to bad.

Did a little tilling with it, sure beats tilling with a walk behind. I working on putting in the rest of our yard.

One thing I don't like about it, it isn't quick hitch friendly.

Anyone have any idea how to figure the date of manufacture from the S/N? I tried to ask Bush Hog through their web site, but it kept telling me that I wasnt typing the CAPTCHA in right.

Tines look pretty worn but are replaceable. 500 seems about right.

It still did a good job of tilling up the ground. I was kind of surprised how well it did, ground was packed hard.

I looked at prices for new tines, was a little surprised at the cost. Don't know if I will replace them, after I get done with the yard I will probably sell it.

One thing I don't like about tilers in general is, they bring up the subsoil to the surface and deposit the topsoil under the less fertile subsoil. Why farmers never use rotary tillers of any kind when fitting a field, they only want to turn the fertile topsoil and not disturb the less fertile subsoil.

You'll find, after rotary tilling that you will need to add a large amount of N to get your grass to grow properly.
