Boom pole

Was at TS yester looking around and they had a cat1 boom pole for like a buck 30. Anyways I was thinking of something like this to lift fire wood logs up to cut them,, I don't bend and lift like I use to,, but then who among us does any more,,, So what Im asking is has anybody had any experience with one of these from TS and the carry all for the 3 pt too. it looks heavy enough, thought maybe something like some others have done instead of using the wagon for wood

Skeets - haven't looked at the boom poles, but did look at the carry-alls couple times. The carry-alls look beefy alright, and I been ponderin' on them too.

Keep us posted if you buy the boom pole, I have looked at it too. That smaller one ($130) looks like it was designed for our BXs. If I can catch up on all my other projects I would like to build a carry all, a chance to practice my welding. The TS carry all design looks like a good place to start as you could use as is plus build a custom box to go with it.

What are the pros and cons of boom poles that go on the 3 pt versus ones that attach to the bucket on the fel? Reason I ask is I saw for the first time one in action on a fel as the pole barn guys used one to raise the trusses and the entire 30 foot end wall of my new Kubota house. The tractor wasn't all that big,, New Holland 95, and the boom pole was just attached to the bucket, with a trapeze like thing with hooks to pick up the trusses in two places. The rig looked like you could pick up anything. Looked like easy to modify the bucket (if you weld). Those guys were really good. They had the bucket rigged with slots for pallet forks, a couple of hooks, and the attachments for the boom pole so the operator could switch back and forth really easy. The bucket was really heavy steel though.

I bought one a few weeks ago, I am only using it on my b7100, but it works great for my needs.

I picked up a really short top link for it and the leverage gives you some pretty good lift.

I put a chain hoist on it and use it to load my tamper and power trowel into the back of the truck to save my back a little bit. I also used it with a logging chain to move some 5' logs about 2' around I had laying near the barn, lifted them right up no problem.

I imagine with the hoist on it it will be handy as an engine lift too if I ever need one.

If I had an L tractor I think a boom pole on the bucket or replacing the bucket would be great. On my little BX the capacity and reach would be a little more limited. The 3 point on a BX is probably more generally useful for anything beyond picking apples.

The boom pole on the fel will have more reach. If the length of the boom pole is the same, the 3 point hitch mount will lift more, at least on a BX.

Thought about this very thing as i was erecting my grain bin, 14'diameter and 12' high. Ended up adding an extension to shop crane and it worked. Shop crane, 1" bar through cross tube and a bracket to fit top link, it will also serve as a boom pole. Hmmm.Hey! You got chocolate in my peanut butter.

Boom poles show up on Craigslist very often. I got one for 45 bucks and it is HEAVY duty. It's actually a tad too big for my L225

Hope this answers your questions about it's strength.
I use it on my 640 Ford along with a hydraulic top link. Got these weights on the front. More than once I've lifted the front wheels off the ground without bending or breaking anything.
Here's the good part. Got it at TSC about 6 years ago on clearance for $55. They had two, should have bought both of them.

I have one for my l3800 I primarily use it for skidding logs around to be cut up for firewood. It has done everything I have asked it to do at this point. It's not built quite as heavy duty as the more expensive one but it works just fine if you stick to it's specs.

I bought the $130 boom pole as my first addition. It worked OK at getting my old 350 lb. JD tiller up high enough for the buyer and his son to slide it into his truck. However, the front wheels got pretty light on the steering.

Another guy bought my JD 318 and the rest of the implements. I used the FEL and chains to load the snow blower and blade on his trailer. The FEL bucket also was an easy way to transport and load the wheel weights.

Since then, I bought a set of BXtended FEL chain hooks and forks. I'll get a lot more use out of them then the boom pole.

I've had one for a few years and use it instead of my loader off Craigslist
where I see them for sale all the time for $75.00. I wouldn't waste money
on a new one simply because there's always or within a couple of weeks one
or more for sale. They are handy as they're light enough that the average person can pick it up to move it around when installing on the 3pt. easily.
If you have a loader on and can put some weight in it that's the best way to use one or weights up front. I move car engines or heavy items using a cable come along so I can adjust the height or fulcrum point so I keep the front
end on the ground. One of these days when I get me one of them "round to it's" I'll build a custom one out of square/rectangular tube that I can adjust the length similar to an engine hoist ( cherry picker ) so I can keep things low and close like a log etc but still have the ability to go longer for sitting
something in the back of a trailer or truck.
I've seen lots of boom poles used for setting trusses and if there's not enough counter weight I've seen the problems of tipping over bending the
loader frame knocking the building walls over etc too. Anytime you extend something out the fulcrum point for tipping increases quickly so beware
even on the back they can be dangerous.
