backwards clutch

We recently sent our 1987 L2850 to the local dealer because we could nbot engage the pto. Grind grind etc. The 2 position clutch pedal would disengage the tractor when depressed 1/2 way and disengage the pto when fully depressed. It came back today backwards; pto 1/2 way down and tractor all the way down. Dealer says that's the correct operation. We bought machine new in 1987 and it's backwards for how it was in 87 Help

No that is not correct. As you said , first stage transmission then second stage PTO. I can not think of any way this could happen. If the internal adjustments were not made correct I could see them releasing at the same time.Does the PTO or Transmission grind when shifting? Ask you dealer what the idea of a two stage clutch is. Get the PTO going then the tractor , not the reverse .

Dealer mechanic needs a lesson. Take the tractor back and ask him to fix it so it works correctly. Should be no additional cost to you for time, supplies or parts. Maybe he ought to pay you for the schooling?

Dealer is a moron!
Clutch disks and or pressure plates are installed or adjusted wrong.
Drive portion disengage is 1/2 way down.
PTO disengage is full way down.

Agree with others. Dealers an idiot and needs to fix his mistake :)

They'll act like that if they don't get the clutch set up correctly.

Ask them to dig up the service manual and follow it step by step for clutch adjustment. It spells it out in plan Jinglish. Even a moron like me can figure it out if that tells you anything.

He's gonna need a thin 14mm or 9/16" wrench to get in there, though. Most are too thick.
