When I try to start the tractor the Oil pressure and Amp lights come on, but when I turn the key to Pre Heat both lights go out but the starter will not engage. Battery voltage is good (12.71). Any help would be much helpful.

Thanks, John

I am definitely not an expert on that model (and welcome others to chime in), but I would start with checking for either a loose or corroded ground connection. I would also ensure that all of the starter electrical connections are both secure and not corroded.

The starter doesn't engage in preheat.

My 8200 did the same thing and all it was, is a loose connection on the battery. All I had to do was touch the + wire and it would start right up.

That was the first thing I did. No help at all.

Thanks, John

One thing to note: Just because you have volts doesn't mean you have amps.
I've got several batteries here that test out at 12+ volts and have very little to no amps.
Pull the battery and have a auto parts store load test it.

If the load test is good: Take a pair of good jumper cables, connect positive and negative right at the battery, then connect positive to starter same post as the original battery cable, and connect ground to a non painted metal location on the engine.

I will give that a try in the AM Tues. Right now we have no power because of the wind and rain last night.

Thanks, John

...Battery voltage is good (12.71)....
Not enough information in that statement for it to mean much.

  1. WHERE exactly did you put the voltmeter probes to measure the voltage?
  2. Under WHAT condition was the voltage measured (e.g. glow plugs on? Cranking? key switch off? headlights on?)

You might, for example, have a battery with a faulty/intermittent internal cell connection. It'll show 12.71V with no load, but put a load on it and the voltage would drop to essentially zero. Excessive resistance anywhere in the start circuit causes similar behavior.

Or, tweaking what NIW says, "Just because you have your battery has volts doesn't mean you have it can provide amps to your starter"

Mr. Ohm has popped in to visit your Kubota - you need to find him.

Measuring voltage in different places under different conditions can reveal the root of the problem if a guy thinks it through carefully and has an understanding of the basic circuit involved.

Turns out, it is the battery.

Thanks John
