It's time. 40 years old and I doubt its ever been done. I recently ordered a valve cover gasket and thought I was good to go.

I looked in the WorkShopManual and, yup, there are instructions. But the instructions have the engine on a motor stand, duh. I'm looking for TDC markings for each cyl for a rig not in total tear down, like on the flywheel? Plus the detail for barring the crank to get each cylinder into position on TDC compression?

An help/direction would be appreciated.

Look at the tractor side opposite of the starter position and you should see a small cover probably round and one side bolted.

Swing it out of your way and you should see the flywheel.

You can probably rotate the engine by grabbing a belt and pulling it. You may want to release the compression to make it easier if you have the release mechanism

You will eventually see the marks but may need to have a helper watch for them

If you are able to rotate the engine by hand, simply rotate it while watching a valve go fully open, then put a chalk mark on the crank pulley, now rotate a full turn till that chalk mark is in the same place, it doesn't have to be perfect. Now adjust that valve. Repeat for each valve. Yes, it is a lot of turning but there is no need for an assistant and less chance for an error.

Road vehicles are one thing. But my 2010 JD 410j or my 80s B7100 are pre-emission and no DEF and I couldn't be happier from annoyances I've heard even when the newer systems are working normally.

The b7100 has an extremely easy valve train with mechanical lifters.
Just turn the engine and you will see the rockers move up and down, simply pick a spot where the lifters are not up and your good to go.
The valve springs are super soft.
