Hello OTT,

Many thanks for all your help so far in my first month of orange tractor ownership. Indispensable!

The forward/reverse pedal on my ‘94 B7100 is sticking in both directions. I’m trying to follow the instructions I’ve found on here to adjust the pedal return spring by tightening the nuts on top of the rod by the transmission fluid filter. I cannot for the life of me get the lock nut to budge. I’ve tried penetrating fluid and the blow torch to no avail. It looks brand new and I’d bet has never been moved. Certainly not rusty. There is no cotter pin. I’ve disconnected the spring from underneath. Im obviously holding the bottom nut with another wrench and have tried turning both directions. Am I missing something? A photo is attached.

Thank you!

Sounds to me like you're missing a cheater bar.
Can you turn both together at all?

What is the small hole for? Does it look the same on the far side?

Could there be a roll pin in that hole for double top secret locking arrangement (that would be unnecessary)?

It is a standard right hand thread. Maybe apply some heat to the lock nut first?

I thought the hole was for a cotter pin but it doesn’t go all the way through. Looks more like a dot/mark maybe indicating where the nut should be.

I alternated heat and penetrating fluid all afternoon and I can’t get it to move using all my strength. The wrench is starting to strip the nuts.

the part is available and only $50 if I have to cut it off and replace, but it seems like I should be able to get it to move.
Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, there's a flat on the rod so you could even use a dremel tool without fear of damaging the threads.

I wonder if those nuts are stainless. They look pretty shiny. Stainless threads have a tendency to gall.

Two BOX END wrenches. (They are cheap enough at any hardware store.
12 point to slip down over the check nut. a six point for the check nut if you can find one.

Clock the two wrenches so they both fit in your open palm at the same time with enough separation to make room for motion.

Give those two wrenches a two fisted squeeze! My bet is the check nut will come away.

MAKE SURE TO GET THE DIRECTION RIGHT!

The nut cracker did the trick. Cracked the lock nut and the one below came off no problem. Repair complete!

Thanks again for the help. Below are some before and after pics of my new toy, when I bought her two weeks ago and now after a light refurb.

I like the hitch receiver on the front.
