I recently came into a 1978 B7100D (geared and 4x4) that has been sitting for the last 15 years. It only has 450 hours on it. I had to rebuild the steering box and clean out the cooling system but now the machine runs great. When I first started it the hydraulics ran good. It has a three point hitch and a snow plow on it.

I started it today and the hydraulics went from working fine to none at all.

Any suggestions? I have read many posts and people have been talking about a screen somewhere. Can someone tell me where the screen would be. And there is no knob to turn under the seat as several people have suggested in other threads.

Also I am going to be taking off the snow plow as I live in Florida and have never need to push snow. (I also have a L3450 if I need a blade.) The hydraulics on the snow plow go to a hydraulic manifold on the right side of the tractor between the brake pedals and the air cleaner. Can I just plug the ports on the manifold or do I need to make a short hose from one port to other to prevent "dead heading"?

My last question... On the right hand side of the tractor there are three levers on the transmission. The bottom one is for four wheel drive. The middle one is for high/low range. What does the top lever do? It is stuck and will not move.

I will post pictures when I figure out how.

Thanks in advanced,
Mark

First pic shows the filter screen- essentially a big banjo bolt the holds one of the hydraulic pipes on.
2nd pic shows the directional control valve under the seat.
3rd pic shows controls- sounds like you are asking about the 3pt hitch lever- it should not be locked up.
Sounds like you need some manuals…..
Can't help with the hydraulics on the snow plow, somemone with more knowledge than me will have to chime in.

At the fender? between the fender and the seat?

If so, it's the 3pt.

Nope, not the three point hitch lever. This one is just above the high/low range lever on the transmission. If the picture loads it is just under the black hose.

And thanks for the picture Lil Foot, but the lever I am talking about is not listed in it.

You can get all 3 manuals (operators, service, and parts ) from Kubotabooks.com, If it's down try it at the first of the month.

Yes you will need to make a hydraulic loop for the front block if you remove the blade.

Big Kahuna got it….. see how pics help? How about the screen (lower right side under the floorboard) & directional control valve under the seat? Maybe the plumbing on yours is different because of the creeper gear transmission?

Start soaking that lever on the creeper with penetrating oil..........need to get that lever free.

15 years is a long time to sit idle.......every seal and gasket will begin to show it soon.

Check your motor oil and make sure it is not over filled......seals on the pump may allow it to be pumping oil into the engine.

I suspect your screen is clogged, along with your supply line (suction line).........need to break it down and clean it up.

You could remove the PTO cover and the creeper to gain access to the trans case to wash it out. Pull your pickup screen and your drain plugs (three of them) and and wash out with mineral spirits. I believe the trans oil has gelled and is resting at the bottom of the case causing your no-flow to the pump.

Use a cup gun (paint sprayer) to wash with........use it like a mini pressure washer.........set it to a pointed spray pattern.....works perfect........allow to set and drain and dry overnight before refill so the MS does not break down the new oil.

BTW.......what I suggested should have been a first step BEFORE you ever started it the first time.

You also need to remove and wash your fuel tank.......after a couple of refills......what ever is inside will flake off and cause a fuel stoppage at some point.

Once a machine has sat for a long period of time.......once you have determined the engine is not froze or seized........the next step is to break it down and clean......clean......clean.

I'm shocked that your injector pump works, there is another thread here......5 years at idle and the injector pump was trashed.

Fuel tank......use Dawn dish soap and hot water........use a couple of hands full of river gravel..........shake.......shake ..........shake........rinse......repeat.

I use a rag and and a stick to wipe out and then a hair dryer to dry.

Yeah I cleaned the tank and fuel system first. When I started there was no fluid in the hydraulic system so I topped it off. Engine oil was where it should be so I started it to see what I was working with. Since then I have changed all the oil in the front end and ball joints. Engine oil change wil be next after teh hydraulic problem is cleared up.

I had to work today, so tomorrow I will pull the hydro screen out and go through it.

Thanks for all of the help.

Ok so I got off work at midnight and in the shop by 12:15.

The screen is pulled and cleaned. When I pulled the screen out I noticed there is all kinds of crap (sediment and brown chunky crap) all around the hydraulic port inside the casing. (The same crap that had my screen plugged up tight.)

Can I get a few gallons of diesel and pour through the transmission to flush it out or will that cause other problems? I'm done for the night though and off to bed.

Thank you for all of the help.

Reading comprehension.
