B7100 hst with hydraulic pump issues

The hydraulic pump on my tractor cracked on the engine side of the pump. I'm not entirely sure why this happened as I do not abuse the tractor. I've read a few threads and still have a question, are there any upgrades for this? I will be fine with the same pump but I'd like to know in case its common practice to upgrade this pumps.

The answer may lie in the optional hydraulics you may have connected to your tractor.

Additional hydraulics connected into the hydraulic block MUST have a relief valve as part of the implements control valve.

A hydraulic pump split like yours has usually been dead headed. This situation happens when the pump has no where to discharge its oil. It is a fixed displacement pump so this means for each revolution of the pump a fixed volume of oil must be pushed out. If this discharge is blocked the internal pressures rise too high and the pump fails.

Is there anything hydraulic besides the 3 pt hitch? A loader, a push blade, a snow blower?

Hi and thank you, the attachments are the front loader, 3 point in the back which I was not using and a belly mower that wasn't connected. I have not seen a relief valve, thanks for the diagram I will check again, the tractor is all factory afaik, the attachment has been therefor a long time, I would hope one should be there, is there anywhere in particular it is located?
Just to verify, no direct upgrades for this?

If your loader valve is supplied by the hydraulic block, (and I say IF because some loaders have their own pump driven off the front of the engine crankshaft) what happens is that the option hydraulic block cover breaks the flow normally managed by the relief valve installed at the factory as part of the 3 pt hitch control.

If your loader valve has 7 hoses then it has a pressure relief valve built in.

Forum member Torch is the B7100 expert on pumps. I recall him posting on the subect and saying he was disappointed the improvement in loader performance was not what he expected.

I suggest you search on the forum for Torch's posts and B7100 pumps.

You could also message him directly. He is knowledgeable and helpful.

I will do a search, hopefully there is a part number to order a pump, the service manual I have has lots of detail but no part numbers. Here is a picture from what I think You described, looks like the relief is there possibly? If so wonder why it cracked the pump then.

NO! That is the Whitehouse Products LEFT hand rotation pump for gear driven B8200 engines.

The 5P1/41041GPO is the Whithouse Products RIGHT hand rotation pump that can be made to fit the direct-drive B7100 engines.

It is slightly larger, the same size as the 6 usgpm pump used in the B8200. That said, in real-world use, I found it only slightly improved performance compared to the stock 3 usgpm B7100 pump. But it is an excellent and economical replacement for your damaged pump.

Here are pictures comparing the stock pump and the Whitehouse Products 5P1/41041GPO, and a picture of it installed on my B7100:

And Dave is right on: if your FEL runs off the tractor hydraulics you should have 7 hoses to your spool valve set. 4 hoses to the FEL cylinders, 1 hose from the front of the hydraulic block, 1 hose to the back of the hydraulic block and a return hose to a tee in the filler under the front edge of the seat, next to the dipstick. I'm not certain, but there might only be 6 hoses in your photos.

The part arrived from White house on Friday and I was able to install it on Saturday though the rain made it difficult, it sure is a tight fit and the IN/OUT pipes need some help to line upto the new HP, also the two bolts on the front are almost impossible to get started due to the space being just enough for the bolts to fit but its all in place and running well I hope, I just started the engine and test it with no weight on it. Btw there are definitely 7 hoses going to the fitting on this picture.
Thank You very much for this information, it allowed me to not only find a good replacement pump but a great price to booth.

Anyway, congratulations and I think you will be pleased. You will probably find a slight performance improvement, but not double by any stretch. I think I worked it out to about 20% faster operation of the FEL, compared at full throttle.

I *think* the performance improvement is better than that at lower rpm, but never thought to take some benchmarks with the old pump.

And I'm just not curious enough to swap the old one back in again unless I absolutely have to!!!

Thats provably something that has been debated here, it is routed to a electric pump thats activated by a temperature switch going to a relay. I had issues with this tractor reaching temperatures in the summer that where too much for my comfort (over 230f after flushing and all kinds of maintenance) and not wanting to have to do the head gaskets on this engine I sourced parts that would make it at least more favorable for the engine to survive. Now there are other concerns with adding a pump to this system and I understand some may stand by the manufacturers design which I respect and yet this has been running reliably for a couple of years with this setup with temperatures well within range.
