Hi everyone,

I have a B6200D with a FEL and backhoe that was purchased from a clearing sale last year. I'm finally getting around to the maintenance required before I try it out for some jobs around the farm. I've changed the oils, new filters etc, and it's only now I noticed that there is no front drive shaft! It seems to have been removed by a previous owners for reasons unknown. I assume that the FEL is next to useless without 4WD? As a first time owner of a 4WD tractor I have no idea where to start on getting it right.

Also, I'm wondering what RPM to idle the tractor at while using the backhoe?

Any ideas or help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You will be able to do almost everything with 2wd as far as a loader is concerned. On the tachometer there should be a mark indicating pto rpms, dont exceed that. Its acceptable to run at lower rpms for finer control. If backhoe stuff is new to you, then start slow until you get used to controls. Wouldnt want to smack someone or something.

A B6200 in OZ wow, You guys usually get more of the grey market tractors down there.

Start by taking some good pictures of what's missing and I can tell you the parts needed to get it back together.

And if for some reason you can't find what you need down there and it's available in the USA, I can help you out. ;)

Hi Tooljunkie, thanks for the reply. We'll give it a go with 2wd for now then :)

We are completely new to backhoes so we'll do as you recommend with the PTO rpms.

Hi Wolfman, your offers of assistance are most generous, thank you! I'll upload some pics today.

Hi, I took some pics. Let me know if I should take some more of other areas or different angles.

View from underneath looking forward:

I've discovered that there is a great grungy rag shoved into the diff hole  Can using it like this cause any damage?

View from underneath in about the middle. Looks like it's where the motor couples to the transmission?:

View from underneath around the seat area:

I assume the pto looking thing sticking out there is where the front diff shaft should be? Thanks for the help!

You'll need to pull the front cover off (in yellow) three bolts, then see what parts are left in there[...]
Ok, here is a pic of the cover removed and what's left:

The shaft poking out with the splines spins by hand but does have some resistance and a slight *thunk thunk* when rotated back and forth. The great grungy rag is saturated with oil which probably means it needs a new seal too? I now realize the drive shaft has probably been removed because of an issue with the front diff or tranny . Ugh...

Yea, you might want to check that out before you get too far into buying parts.
It might be a lot more parts needed.

Hi, thanks for your help thus far. I'm a bit unsure about where to begin to check it out so I have a few questions:

1. Should the front diff spline spin freely? If not then I suppose I'm up for taking off the cover and having a look.

2. If I try engaging the 4wd should the shaft, that's in the third image above, start to spin?

No the front diff shaft shouldn't spin free.

Yes the back shaft should spin when the rear wheels move.

Go to KubotaBooks.com and download the B6200-B7200 Ops manual, it will give you some info.

So the shaft circled in the pic below should spin when the rear wheels move? I figured it was for the front diff drive shaft or possibly a mid pto.

I went there after I bought the tractor and could only find the ops manual for the HST (the listing there "B6200-7200ops.pdf" downloads the HST manual). What I really need is the ops manual and work shop manual for the non-HST...

it is the front drive shaft, but in 4wd mode, the rear wheels will need to spin before the shaft will spin. ;)

I didn't realize that the ops manual was just for the HST, they are close but not the same.
