Hi,

I know home made ROPS are controversial but here in Thailand there is no way I can get a Kubota ROPS for my B6001 -that leaves me with either continuing without or building my own.

I use the tractor on pretty much dead flat land -the only "iffy" parts are getting on and off the fields from the dirt roads. The risk of flipping the tractor on its side is low but it is still there.

What I would like some help with is some dimensions of the square tubing used for these ROPS -external dimension of the tube as well as wall thickness.

Would anyone be so kind to give me these dimensions?

Many thanks,
Hasse

My B5100 (basically same size tractor) has a main tube 2" square; I cannot measure wall thickness but I'd guess 1/8" or a bit more from the sound. The supports that fasten to the tractor are 2 1.5" tubes of similar thickness welded side by side. Stout.

The ROP is new and made by FEMCO, inc; I bought it from Kubota for ~$250
delivered as part of their 'fend off the lawyers' campaign.

Thank you Bart for the information!

I have some 2" square tubing here with 1/4" wall thickness -I think I will use that.
As I cannot bend the tube I will cut and weld, with a 1/4" wall thickness and chamfered cuts I can lay a double or triple weld for extra strength.

Cheers Bart!

The hard part of the ROP is getting all the attachment bolts right; the loads from various sorts of accidents can go in any direction. The ROP on my B5100 picks up a lot of bolts in different orientations, including some on the differential.

Remember to include a seat belt!

Yeah I have already looked at where/how to attach it, I am thinking of bolting it to the back of the differential (on the sides where the 3P lower brackets are mounted) and have a cross brace up at the 3P top link bracket.

I will look for a seatbelt at the junk yard -will see what I can find that will work.

Cheers!

Thanks for the photos, I will replicate that fixing method as much as I can.

One question; on the right side did you have to do anything to the 3P lever "rod" that operates the valve? On my tractor there is very little clearance there and I am thinking of possibly cutting off an inch or so of it (that is unused) to make some more clearance.

Cheers!

The dealer insisted I wasn't qualified to install my ROPs, so their "Super Tech" had to install it. He screwed it up, bending the 3pt linkage. After I straightened everything, all that was necessary for everything to clear was to turn part #2 (on the drawing below) 90 degrees to clear the bar. Here's the link to the post:

Thanks a lot for the info and the link to the post -even though I have been searching for ROPS on the forum a few times I have never stumbled on to that particular thread.

I very much appreciate the information from you guys!

Lil Foot you are just a wealth of information ;)
Any wealth is from a lot invested in experience, research, mistakes, and some dumb luck.:)
And years moderating a Rhino forum taught me that the smallest fact, tip, or pic (even ones that you assume everyone knows) maybe the one thing someone else needs to get past a problem.

Pictures and correct info are key. ;) :):D This site has great members with lots of knowledge :) Waisted an hour looking for info on my wife's car. Even the Mazda forums had the wrong location and info. And not one bloody picture. Should have just asked here, and would have probably had the answer in an hour or less :D

Getting first hand information to solve a problem is what this forum is all about.
I use the resources available to me for performing repairs in my shop. I dont have access to an online repair site like mitchell as its quite pricey, used the funds to finance a snap on diagnostic scanner instead.

So instead of warnings and bashing why you shouldnt build your own ROPS the members support your interest in being safe(r) while running the tractor. Sharing pictures and measurments to save many hours of trial and error will help with the finished product being robust enough to protect you if needed.

Thats what sets OTT well above all the other forums.

We are expecting pictures of the finished rops as well.

Pictures during the build and when finished will come for sure!

It will be a little while though, as today I trailered the tractor to one of my properties to do some work -it is parked there until I finish -hopefully mid next week.

I really appreciate all advise and help I get here -kudos to you all!
