I have my new b5100 up on blocks for a full restoration; it needs it. Right at the moment, all the orange parts are in one corner of the shop and the blue parts are on jack stands: the front drive is also off for a bushing replacement.

So far Ive rewired the main harness and replaced the pto clutch.

Today I drained the oil and the trans fluid. THe trans fluid was green and milky.
Either I bought a flooded vehicle, or more likely, the shift boot let the rain in while the machine sat in the dealers lot.

ANy suggestions how to dry things out before I replace all the UDT?

I flushed the hydraulic system of a boom lift once, because the system had been filled with the wrong fluid. The local lubricant supplier suggested 10 weight diesel engine oil, because it was about the viscosity of hydraulic fluid and has a nice detergent package. Maybe that would work.

FWIW, Mark

Me, I would drain the old oil, leave the drain plug out and the fill plug off, and let it all drip out, and air dry.

Thats what Im doing right now. But its cold and clammy here so I just wonder if Im getting all the contaminated fluid out of the corners. What would happen if I put some #2 in the gearcase and a magnetic block heater underneath? Would it get too hot? I cant run things because its on blocks.

Those block heaters don't do too much, so I doubt that it will get too hot.
