Hi all,

I just picked up a B5100 and I noticed that when I turn the key to preheat nothing happens. On my other kubota I hear a clicking noise and the filiment glows red but on the B5100 I get nothing. What should I check first? Could it be the glow plug or could it just be messed up wiring?

Thanks everyone,
John

I'd start by putting a voltmeter on the top of a glow plug to see if you're getting voltage and what that voltage is. If all is working properly it should be about 10.5 volts. At forty years of age you may well have a resistive element on the dash which is supposed to glow dimly when glow plugs are energized. It may have corroded contacts preventing any voltage beyond. It is also possible one or more glow plugs have failed. You can use an ohmmeter to test them for resistance though it will only be a couple of ohms. Note that all are wired in parallel so they must be disconnected and tested individually.
