I have a B3030. The front u joint went out. It looks like I either have to drop front axle or maybe split the tractor. Has anyone ever done this repair. Thanks

I looked through the WSM and couldn't find specific instructions for removing/repair the shaft/u-joint.
Looking at the parts diagrams it looks like two split pins, one inside of the other are used to hold the universal joint to either shaft.

I'd knock the pins out of both sides of the u-joint (4 split pins total) and see if it can be dropped without further disassembly.
Hopefully someone who has done this repair can lend some assistance.

Thank you for the response. There lies my problem. Access to those pins. The only way I see to get to those pins is to split the tractor. It’s hard to imagine the would design it so you have to do that, but maybe that is the only way.

I am in the process of replacing that u-joint on my B6000. Your tractor may be different, but removing the front axle worked for me. I don’t know about the B3030 but it’s worth considering. Having to split the tractor to replace a u-joint would be unacceptable.

I just had the same problem with the bearing going out. How did you get the pins out or did you take it to the dealer?
