Mowing, the tractor shut off. Cranked it and started and continued mowing. 2 days later a sputter like the fuel shutoff solenoid kicked in and and released, no other issues. A month later mom is mowing and calls me. was mowing and now wont start. After work go and inspect safety switches, all ok. Engine cranks but no start. Do not hear shutoff solenoid opening and closing.
Drag it onto trailer and head to shop. Fuel solenoid continuity tests ok I think...but ah Amazon has one for $25, i'll get one and slap it in there, good to go.... Started three times then no start again, cranks but no start. Ok lets do this the hard way. Fuel solenoid relay sounds ok, opens when I hit it with 12 V so get a few clips and some wire and wire up a little circuit to test relay under load. Hmm it works, amazon and old solenoid work. Crap now I have to check wire and of course it goes under fuel tank, Pull dash, plastic guard, surround over fuel tank, unhook glow plugs and oil pressure sensor and fuel shutoff solenoid, pull out harness and look... no damage under tank, its a plastic tank what is going on...
Well the fuel shutoff solenoid is fed with two 12V wires. There is one wire out of the fuel shutoff relay that goes to the solenoid. The wire harness had a sleeve style crimp making the one wire two wires for the solenoid and the crimp is about 6"-8" down from the relay. Mine had been installed tight to the tank and the crimp had cut the insulation causing a short in the fuel shutoff solenoid circuit. White wire is where the sleeve crimp was installed, and you can see the burned wires in the pic.
Butt splices tomorrow and i should be back in business.
Machine has only about 1200 hours on and it I am the only owner.
Anybody know if there is a bulletin on this?
