Hi All,

I just purchased a used B2710 with only 172 hrs on it. I will only be using it for light duty on a small acreage (front end loader, box blade and small auger) just as the original owner did. That said, are there any general thoughts on strong or weak points of this tractor? Any specific maintenance areas I need to know about?

Thanks in advance for helping this newbie.

If you have service records then that's good. If you don't, then I would recommend an oil and filter change (My oil recommendation is Rotella T-6 Full synthetic 5/40 or 15/40)
I would also do a full coolant change with high quality, diesel rated 5 year coolant.
I have seen several instances where operators used 4wd in low range for front loader work. They hog the tractor into a dirt pile and keep pushing forward while lifting heavy dirt or material. What can happen is that they eventually shear the front drive pinion or break the front driveline. Not saying not to use 4wd to push into the material but remember the front axle will have all of the drive load and the rear axle will be light due to the front loader picking up the material. This makes the rear want to spin but having a locked transfer case, puts the torque mostly on the front end and the front differential pinion.
I always warm my B3200 up before working hard and let it run and do a cool down before shutting it down. Avoid excessive idling. Diesel engines don't produce a lot of heat at idle and you can have incomplete fuel burn and cylinder washing from fuel. If I leave mine running for longer than a few minutes, I bring up the RPM to 1300-1500. That's My $0.02 worth.
HAVE FUN with it.

Congrats!

Tractors are a blast. They are like Swiss Army knives with wheels.

If you do your own service, like most owners, be advised some Kubota's have TWO oil drain plugs because the pan has a channel where the driveshaft that feeds the front end with, runs through. This creates oil on one side and oil on the other side of the tunnel which requires two drains to get all the oil out. Not sure if your model does or not.

The higher your loader goes, the higher your center of gravity goes. Too high and you can tip the machine. Keep your loads as low as possible, especially on uneven surfaces.

Take it easy and have fun.

Congrats on a great tractor! I bought mine back in 2000 and just went over
800 hours. I have added lights, canopy and alternator to it and use it all the
time with its FEL, backhoe, york rake and snow blower. I sold the tiller as
I rarely used it.

I never used the mid-mount drive until I got my snow blower so it sat for
12 years never used... The Kubota dealer had to really work to get it to
function because it was unused for so long. So I would run all the PTO's
periodically and use all the gears/speeds to keep them in good working
order. Enjoy your tractor and lets see some pictures!

Bought my 2410 in 2000... it is a beast and built like tank. Just don't abuse it and it will run forever... I have 2026 hours on mine and that is farting around the house... Enjoy your tractor!

Great little tractor. If there were any downsides to the 2710 and 2910, it's that the engine makes more power than the chassis can handle. I know of some guys who use them for moving bales on a daily basis...not quite big enough for that kinda stuff but that's what they use 'em for.
