Hi,

I'm looking to buy a rought cut rotary mower for my B2710 (2000 model). The manual states to use a 48 in deck. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences regarding a 60 in deck for my tractor?

Thanks,

Scott

I used a 5' bush hog on my L185DT for about 30 years. The tractor weighs about a ton, and had about 13 PTO horses. During that time I went through some creditable brush - once a 50' diameter wild rose bush about 12' high. I mostly did it in low-low, low PTO. I always felt if the tractor would run it over, the bush hog would chop it up.
You have twice the hp, and probably about the same weight. You may want front end weights for stability.

I always give extra consideration to the manufactures of the tractors and what they feel is operational within their engineering design limits. just because a 60" will fit and will spin it what are the long term possibilities of internal trans shaft damage or diff case do to extra stresses or what have you. I just not a "that ought to be good enough" kinda guy. It may never make a difference but, I dont like paying for damages I caused.

i have a B2620 and use a 4 foot rough cutter on it. sometimes i think i could power a bigger cutter and then when i get into some heavier stuff i think 4 feet is enough. personally i would go with what the tractor specs recommend and not push the envelope too hard...paying for broken shafts and gear boxes won't be fun.

With 27hp I think you can handle the 5 footer.
You've got 20hp at the pto, and you're tractor is 1740lbs.
4wd?

I'm starting to question Operator Manuals suggestions.
Says 60 inch snow blower, not a chance.
Says 42 inch tiller, I run a 48 inch safely.
Says 48 inch cultivator, I run a 60 inch safely.

Find a 60 you can run for a day.
