B26 PTO Stuck, shaft will not turn, lever will not move to engage PTO.

I bought a used B26 a year ago and was considering a brush hog. So today I tried the PTO and the lever to engage the rotation of the PTO moved back and forth and did not do a thing. I happened to have the Hoe off and looked at the linkage under the seat. The linkage for the PTO lever was not hooked up, nor was the lever to raise the 3pt arms.

So, I put the pin that was disconnected back together and the 3 pt arms work fine.

I reconnected the PTO engaging lever but the lever will not move at all do engage the PTO. Total resistance.

Also, when I try to turn the PTO shaft manually, it is pretty much frozen and will not move. I did not try to force it.

I hope this is not an expensive fix. The unit was a rental previously and has 1000 hrs on it and is otherwise a great machine.

As a rental BH, these things were probably disconnected originally on purpose. Hopefully with some PB blaster hopefully you will get it to engage. Try a light tap with a hammer back and forwards to see if it will move slightly.

So is the lever seized on the shaft/pin, or is the hydraulic valve seized? The PTO output shaft has clutches/brake in it so I would try to get the valve selected first. EDIT: Just re read your first post, not the lever, so the valve must be seized, if it won't move by gentle tapping back and forwards with a copper hammer or similar, pull the valve off to repair it, may have corrosion from moisture in the oil, and from never being used for years. It also appears to have a detent which may be rusted in place. (Could be wrong, just use a bigger hammer LOL)

Thanks for the information 100td - I was busy replacing the left pivot seal on top of the front axle and had the BH off. That's when I noticed the issue with the PTO shaft being stuck.

After messing with the seal, I had some work to do with the BH so I put it back on. Now I have to take it off again to mess with the PTO.

So, I will get back to you when I take the BH off again.

OK - finally got around to messing with this again. And, good news.

I forced the PTO engagement lever a bunch of times and it would not give at all. Then yesterday when really forcing it I felt a slight movement.

Well, I kept working it and over 15 minutes it reluctantly started moving back and forth a little bit, but with a lot of force on the lever.

I kept working it and it gradually loosened up and now it engages and moves back and forth like butter - smooth.
