OK, here we go. I am new to the Kubota world as I bought my first tractor this fall. It is a B26 backhoe loader with relatively low hours. She has been running great doing all kinds of odds and ends until this past saturday while planting grass with a seeder... I moved the seeder a little (up or down I can't remember)and the tractor just died. I tried to re-start to no avail. Since we had several of us there that thought we were handy we started to dig in and tried what we thought were all of the obvious fixes.
The first thing I noticed was that I did not get the audible click that i was used to hearing when I switched the key on. We checked all of the fuses right away and made sure they were good. The dash lights work, as well as the blinkers, and other lights work fine. I have noticed that the glow plug lights do not come on.
Next up we ran a hot wire from the battery to the starter solenoid and crossed the starter terminals and was able to get the starter to crank that way... but no fire. We suspected the key switch may be bad so took it apart and it appears ok. We even tried moving around some of the leads and powering the dash independently and it seems the switch is ok??
I tried moving the HST pedal forward and back while trying to start, jiggling the pto lever into multiple positions, same for the gear selection leveer, moving the seat around, and checking the seat safety switch.
The hot wire coming into the key switch at one point (previous owner) had an auxiliary wire ran for something. I do know that wire had been ripped in two and potentially could have been shorting out on the fender well. Maybe causing some electrical components in the tractor to go bad? We took that piece of wiring out of the loop and have just wire nutted those connections back together for now until I can get a more permanent fix.
So I do suspect one of the safety switches on the tractor could be bad. I have heard there are some relays on the tractor that could be the culprit as well.
Not sure which direction to turn here, but I thought maybe ya'll may have some good ideas for me to try and report back on. Maybe i'm missing something easy here.
Going from memory here, but I do not believe in the past that I had to set on the seat, have the tractor in neutral, or have the parking brake set to be able to start it. Are those items typical of kubota tractors.... or has the previous owner re-wired those items?
Lots of questions I know... but I really appreciate any help or insight.
