B2250 Trans. site glass.

I have a B2250 I just bought. I am changing fluids, greasing, adjusting etc. I am confused by the site glass to check the Trans. Looking into it the background is a tan color all over. So it is either very low or over full I imagine. My question is... what color should I be seeing? If lower than the glass should I see tan or if over full should I see tan color. It has been run for years with the current level with no leaks and working fine so I don't intend to mess with it BUT trying to figure what I am looking at. Also is this checked with it hot or cold. THank You

You are not the first person having this problem.

You can try to jack up the tractor a bit to see the surface level.

A good few members added colouring to the almost clear oil. Use the search function to find recommendations.

It should be white if it's low, tan is full or over full
Drive up on a block of wood on the side with the sight glass and you should see some white.
Cold is the normal way to check hydraulic fluid.

+1 on the dye

Just by the dye and be done with it. It makes checking the level “effortless"

Having that dye in my system also helped me see a leak one time that may have “saved my bacon” when I saw the red fluid in the snow, after a branch/stick/stone damaged one of my lines.

It WILL stain your hands, only needs about 2 drops per gallon of hydraulic fluid ... It also stained my tractor! I recommend adding it directly to the jug of hydraulic fluid, then dump it into the transmission if your fill is in a tight spot like mine was with my BH on ...
