B-series 3 pt. lift height likely to be enough for this attachment?

Hi guys, newbie tractor owner here. About to pull the trigger on a used sub-soiler/ripper (single tyne) attachment. It's quite a drive to go collect it from the seller, and I'm not too sure whether my little B2301 will actually lift the thing clear of the ground properly.

The length of the shank (from underneath the drawbar to ripper tip) is 28” - which seems to be a fairly long shanked ripper compared to many new ones I’m seeing online marketed towards lower HP tractors (usually around 20”)

When I raise my 3 pt. hitch to it's highest setting, the 2 lower links are about 25” off the ground.

I realize I can shorten the top link to tilt it at an angle, and this might *just* enable it to clear the ground I am guessing (?) but then what about when I’m driving over a change of grade…I’ll need a least a few spare inches of clearance so it doesn’t catch the ground, right?

Can anyone tell me if a 28” attachment is really just too big for a tractor like mine? Or should it work just fine?

This is not your tractor - but the rear may be almost identical .........

Notice where the lower arms are pivoting - sometimes there are another set of holes that can be utilized by moving the pins - this will allow the 3 point to raise up or down a bit more DEPENDING on what holes is being used

Some subsoilers are too long for a BX. I took the mouldboard off a middle buster and attached a point to make one that fit my BX.

28" from pins-to-point sounds long for a B....

Yeah sadly it is already using the set of holes that enable it to go higher.
Sounds like this ripper is gonna be too big.

Even if you can lift it high enough, your 2301 will not pull it unless you are in a sand box.

Thanks guys. I’ve given it a miss.

will my tractor pull a smaller ripper/ subsoiler or do they just not really work with smaller tractors? I want to break up the hard pan under our clay soils

Can't be very small if you want to get into the subsoil, and they pull hard.

Many sub-soilers have a replaceable shank with through bolts at the top of the shank. Any chance you could drill a set of holes lower down the shank to effectively raise it inside the frame in case you needed a little extra clearance?

Also, small tractors will easily get hung up on rocks and roots, but, you should be able to make a pretty good scratch in the ground:

The forked ends of the lift rods on my BX were long enough that I could drill new holes in them, to get more lift out of the 3PH arms.

Enough that I could rotate a 6' landscape rake or rear blade when fully up, which was impossible to do beforehand.

Just suggesting this as an option.

I wouldn’t worry too much about whether your tractors can pull a ripper 28” deep in the ground (it probably can’t). But you also only need to lower it as deep as your tractor can handle it (if you can lift it above the ground). With multiple passes you can go progressively deeper until your tractor says “no more.”
