Hi All,
Hoping for a quick diagnosis here. She started fine earlier today, parked it and no more start. It clicks when I turn the key on, I have 12.75v at the battery, I cleaned the terminals, messed with the seat switch, checked the clutch switch, and still nothing beyond the click. Solenoid maybe? I did not pull and clean the starter contacts. If you could give me a terminal jump process, that would be great. I don't want to fry something else by jumping the wrong contacts.
Any thoughts? I'm out of time tonight but will mess with it again tomorrow.
Thanks...
Jamo

There should be a flat (spade) connection on the solenoid. Probably has a black with white stripe wire on it. See if you get around 12.75 volts on that wire when you turn the key to start.

I am guessing that it will be less and that all the safety switches are dirty and dropping the voltage too much.

Be safe if you try the following because the tractor engine should spin and there is a potential that you could be killed if the engine starts and the tractor runs over you. Just be sure the key is turned OFF (and the key is in your pocket) and that it is in neutral. It would be wise to have a safety patrol watching in case something does go wrong.

To verify the starter works properly you can apply positive battery power to that spade terminal. Most people use some type of jumper from the positive battery cable that is connected to the starter body (large terminal). Most people use a screwdriver that the don’t like very much. You can use a wire if you want to and have two free hands.

If the starter cranks the engine then the starter is good. If you need it to be run then turn key to running position (not the starting position) and jump the starter again. BUT YOU ARE BYPASSING ALL SAFETY FEATURES AND STARTING THE TRACTOR SO IT CAN TRY TO KILL YOU.

Hold the key in the crank position and move the HST pedal back and forth.
If it cranks at any point you either need to adjust the switch or the neutral position.
