I do commercial mowing on oil/gas leases and roadway mowing. I have had and currently have Landpride, Schulte, Bushhog and Ol Grizz flex wing mowers. I live in Alberta Canada I’m looking at a new Rhino ag 2150 flex wing mower the price is pretty decent for our cnd dollar 🙄. Question I have has anybody had any real experience with their mowers or this model in particular? Everything other brand in comparison is $45,000 and up.

Tractor Time With Tim on YouTube features a Rhino Ag 10ft TS10 model in some videos and he seems to be very pleased with it. That doesn't say much about the 2150, but looking at the specs it seems to be a 15ft version of the Land Pride RC3712 that I bought recently. If the price is good I doubt you could go wrong with the Rhino Ag.

They're all variations on a theme with the gear boxes, driveshafts, wheels, cylinders and drawbar connection being the salient differences. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more similarities than differences when comparing Land Pride, Rhino Ag, IronCraft, Bush Hog and many other models out there.

I think with flex wing mowers you are going to get what you pay for. The ones that stand up to the kind of mowing you and I do are the higher end mowers. Probably wouldn't be a good mower for you as they are built down south but they ship parts to me. Give Bush Whacker a look. They use them down south on your kind of mowing. I have one that has stood well up to CRP, road ditch, field stocks and much more. Around here the highways guys run JD tractors and mowers and get new equipment every year. Got a buddy in Iowa that runs the Schulte's twenty foot high end models and I think he said the last one was well over fifty grand.

I appreciate the replies. Ya that old saying usually lives true “pay for what you get”. I have no prob paying the premium for a good mower just every year these jobs go out to bid, so it’s not a forsure thing. I find it way easier to sell a 100k tractor compared to a 50k mower only select few need them.

@Mitjam, what are or your thoughts about Land Pride, and specifically the RC4715 and RC5715 models which look to be serious folding cutters. I like that Land Pride offers a number of tiers with much of their equipment so customers can find a good cost vs. performance fit.

I'm meeting someone on Thursday morning to take a look at their 17 acre field that needs to be cut. Hopefully I can get in and around with the 3712 since it'll be a lot quicker. I haven't seen the property yet, but on paper it's about a 7 hour job assuming 2mph and that's going to be around $900 all in. I'm not optimistic that this person will want to pay that amount. I'm finding that people are clueless as to the costs with doing this sort of work.

I understand completely not a lot of farmers around here buying 50K mowers either. I don't do any custom farming type work. There is no money in it around here. When folks ask I just say my farm insurance won't cover me doing custom work. I have seen a lot of custom hay makers come and go in the area over the years. They don't charge enough then the equipment is wore out and their broke. The guys that bid highway mowing around here come in from a long ways off. Like I said earlier they must lease tractors and mowers. New equipment every year. Some way they are making it work. I don't need any more practice working any more. I own enough ground now days, if someone comes along and is raising the rent on a rented farm they can just have it. I am always more than fair with folks but if someone has a better way to do it let them do it. Have a friend that is younger than me and farms a lot of rented ground and he is seeing a lot of older landlords passing away and ground being sold a crazy prices that he and his son can't afford. Years ago I farmed with junk and bought land he farmed with new equipment and farmed mostly rented ground. Now that's playing out to be a problem. Him and his son may have to take a town job to keep farming.

My landpride has been rock solid it’s an older model a rc5515 it is double deck almost all the way so when you hit a rock or anything it doesn’t dent the top. I have looked at new land prides up here in Alberta but no dealer can get any higher than the rc2515 series in not even on order. Those two mowers you mentioned are very good mowers would be my choice. I know the feeling a plumber or someone comes to your house for two hours you get 300 dollar bill but yet, I can’t get away with tractor mower and operator for a 125hr. Really ticks me off for sure

Yes it’s really tough now days to make money with new equipment but even fixing them with price of parts is ridiculous too. I don’t know anything different so I guess I’ll go broke in my Kubotas 😂
