Yesterday I was picking crap from the wind and dead branches putting them on the burn pile,,, they will go when we get, if we get snow. Any way I noticed how, in my still young learning curve with the grapple, how the ground got dug up picking things up. And in my twisted mind I though I wonder how that would work digging the weeds out of the garden,, nothing ventured nothing gained ,, right? Long story short after fiddlin and fartin around, it seemed I not only got the weeds up and out by the roots, but a lot of taters I missed as well !
Now I dont think this is a good way to use the little beasty, it worked fairly well. The clawing action, really did loosen up the ground and then scooping up the littler was easy, After wards I can see how if you go hog wild one could easily mess up a cylinder, which would be cheap to replace, I just thought it was another use for it

a root rake grapple is awesome for tearing up and cleaning the top layer of the ground.

I use my grapple to loosen the top layer of soil when I need to level a section and to pull out big weeds and small trees for clearing. My grapple is a sturdy root grapple (Land Pride SGC1060) and these are some of the reasons I bought it. I pull with the bottom tines for the heavy work and then open the grapple all the way and tilt it down and use the top tines for raking the loose soil.
