Hi-

I am new to the remote world and hoping someone can enlighten me on them. I recently picked up a Beltec PHD which has 4 hoses. My L2500 does not have any rear remotes on it and I am thinking of adding some or upgrading to a larger tractor. The PHD may be too small for it.

Questions
1- If I wanted to add remotes, what is the ideal # of spools? 2 seems too little as it would not operate the Beltec. Is 4 sufficient? Or are there implement that have 6 or 8 hoses?
2- To add remotes to my L2500, is this a Kubota item or aftermarket? What is a rough cost of parts or kit?
3- I saw a tractor video that had an open circuit I think it was called. Is this important to have? Or a nicety?
4- Looking at upgrading my tractor, many have 2 spools, so I would need to add at least 2 more. Would you add a new kit that had 4 total or another valve with 2?
5- Does the type of spool matter? Are they interchangeable? If the larger tractor had a set of 1 type do I need to use that same type to add 2 more? Or can you mix them up?

Anything else I should need to know?

Thanks

You have s few misconceptions.
  1. Your PHD has 4 hoses - lets assume it has a hydraulic motor and a hydrauluc cylinder. You need one spool for the motor (2 hoses) and one spool for the cylinder (2 hoses).
  2. Your tractor is open center so you need open center remotes with power beyond.
  3. I dont think Kubota ever offered remotes for that tractor and if they did they are probably long obsolete. Aftermarket is likely the way to go and there are lots of very affordable valves to choose from.
  4. You need a way to tie into the hydraulic system. Do you have a loader on your machine? Do you have power steering.
Plumbing in a valve is simple but you will need to identify where you can hook in and that depends on the answers to #4.

Thanks Dan. Got it, a spool is a pair of connections, an in and out. I thought each connection was one.

I do have a FEL but not PS. I have a plate on the side that directs to the FEL. I'd have to go back and find the PB marking.

If you have a FEL you are good to go. The PB hose is the one coming to the rearward port on the plate. Simply disconnect it from the plate and connect it to the inlet on your new remote valve. Then connect the PB port on the remote valve to the plate. Third and last step is to connect the tank port on the remote valve to a tee in the tank port on tje loader valve. Simple as that.

Whoops - your plate is probably on the left rear side of the teactor below tje seat so my PB port ID above does not apply

Yes the plate is on the left below the seat. But I see what you are saying, it does sound simple, thanks for the explanation.

As I am looking at these spool valves, most have joystick controls. I don't think I need that, but is it something I should consider?

Before we go spending more money here...

This is a hydraulic PHD correct? What are the specs for it, and will the L2800 provide enough pressure and flow to use it?
His tractor produces a biscuit under 5 GPM so its very marginal at best.

Yes, the beltec is a TM48, so it's hydraulic That said, after 12 years of ownership, I sold it this past week. I needed/wanted a bigger tractor to run this and other implements I have. Ideally looking for something in the 45-55 hp range with more lift, rear remotes and a SSQA FEL. Retrofitting mine with those items on a 27hp tractor that would give marginal performance was not a good spend I decided. I do have a L2600 still though.

Thanks for the comments/input. Once I get a newer tractor I will post back and see what is needed to make this work.
