Adding FUEL to the MX6000 makes me cuss

I absolutely love my MX6000 but the only complaint I have is adding gas....
So in the grand sceme of things, a minor issue but man adding gas is a hassle.
WHY on earth do they put the gas fill on top of the hood? It is such a pain to lug a 5 pound gas can up there and add fuel without making a mess... I tried someones idea of using a board across the loader arms as a rest... I sure wish there was a conversion of some kind to lower down on the side like JD does.. that was the only thing I liked better about green.

I dont have a permanent solution but I’d recommend one of the following band aids…Maybe check out a fuel transfer pump or a fuel caddy that has a rotary pump/hose. I hope this helps.

I feel your pain. What I do on my L is put a rag/towel on the hood, hoist up the 5 gallon up on it and use a little pump (sold at Harbor Freight and the like) to pump it to the tank. It uses two D cell batteries and takes about 3 or 4 minutes to pump the jug empty. There’s an on/off lever on the end of the hose. I rarely spill this way. On an MX, some might need something to stand on to see in the tank to avoid over filling.

Oh, your tractor will run better with diesel than gas.

MX's are gas?

My L is diesel, but fueling it up is the same PITA.

When I fuel it from a can, I put a board across the loader arms as a place to rest the can, I have the extra long spouts on my cans so I can tip it over without spilling anything.

haha, should have clarified "fuel"... my bad... definitely diesel fuel...some good suggestions here on the fuel transfer pump.... of course using a smaller can would be easier too. My complaint is that for as awesome of a machine as this in nearly every way, you would think the newer designs (mines a 2020) would have the fill on the side making it easier to fill from the ground... easier us on disabled folks...

Here is a thread that went on for several pages with different alternatives. I posted a picture of my Moline and gassing it up with a transfer pump. I got one with long enough hose, and it has a simple plastic nozzle with shut-off.

Fuelworx makes a 5 gal can that will dump all 5 gal. in 60 seconds. You have some control with the vent button, to slow it down. It doesn’t take long to fill, but you have pay attention or you can make a mess. This is what I use.

It does suck for sure and I agree that the the MX6000 is a great tractor! Pouring fuel into the M6060 is a breeze but no so much with the MX6000. The solution I opted for is a 106 gallon JohnDow fuel storage tank sold by Home Depot (and others). It's great with the auto shut off nozzle but it only helps when the tractor is at home since I'm not lugging it with me when I go to work on projects elsewhere.

Fueling my MX6000 (with diesel fuel) is a breeze. I use this caddy with the hand pump. Stand on floor, put the hose in the fuel tank and hand crank till full. If there’s any fuel left in the line, the hand crank works in reverse to drain the line back into the caddy. Of course I use a Mr Funnel to filter the fuel as it goes into the tractor tank. Mount the caddy to a pallet and use your forks to load and unload the caddy into your truck or trailer for refilling.

That's neat. I like that the tank is made from stainless steel, although I'm not familiar with 201 stainless. I could use something similar when the tractors are working away from home.

I bought a 12 volt powered setup from Amazon a year ago. I have a 40 KW standby generator with a 60 gallon tank and I use it as a bulk storage tank and feed the Deere and Kubota from it which avoids having diesel sit unused for long periods of time in the generator tank.

My Kubota F2690 would be easy to fill from containers given its fairly low fill port on the side but the Deere 955 tank is under the hood and a bit of a pain to climb up with 5 gallon containers.

OP, You bought the wrong brand because refuelling is tough. You should have bought a Yanmar, no wait, I mean JD. (That's a little comedy). I totally respect JD and Yanmar, btw. Just kidding ya.

[K, call me. For a fee, I'll design it. Trial it. Once configured and tested, you'll manufacture the Quick connect - No lifting- Refuelling system. So us older guys who can, and do, afford your excellent machines can rave about them even more.

In the 'good old days' the farmers made a crib of 4by4s and placed a 100 gallon tank on top, tllted back ,with small drain on that end( to remove water..). Added a filter and hose/nozzle on the filling end. Delivery truck filled tank as called for.
the farmer let gravity help him fill the tank on his fleet. I know of two locals that STILL do this. It's simple, cheap, easy and works any time ,any day of the year.
