I had been frustrated by the small 7/8" bore on the original 3 jaw lathe chuck for years, so I bought a new larger chuck with a 1-3/4" bore. Can't change the bore through the headstock but this will help.

I started with a piece of rusty scrap that had a few holes in it, and a faceplate that came with the lathe when I bought it 30 years ago.

The end result - +/- 0.001" runout on the chuck od. Same on a ground pin in mounted in the chuck jaws. I'm happy with that.
