Well it's been a busy summer over here. I've been doing farm repairs for a local farm, doing automotive repairs and even ship repairs. Right now were into the winter tire change over rush which is terribly boring to do but it has to be done. Anyway awhile back this farm brings in an old guard of some type of farm implement and asked if I could make a couple so I told them I'd give it a try. The original was made out of 1/8th material but I beefed it up and went 3/16th. Most everything was done on the Ironworker I bought for the shop this summer. Here's how it all turned out.

Wildfire as always you did nice work. I love that iron worker all the way from over here. Was that a bandsaw or a plazma cutter doing the angle cuts? Nice stuff Paul. Dusty

Hi Dusty. The only time I used the plasma was to cut the material I needed for this job from the sheet of 4X8 3/16 plate. The only other tool used other than the plasma was the welding machine and that is a Millermatic 350P and welded in pulse mode.
Everything was done with the ironworker including the round cuts. I used the notching station to nibble away the unneeded material (As seen in photo). Glad you liked the job. When my customer came to get them he thought I had ordered them in and not made them at all so that was nice to hear. Glad to see your still around sir and thanks for your comments. Paul

Great Job! Now I'm torn between living next door to you or next to Dusty. I feel like I could learn a great deal from either of you. Thanks for posting the pictures and explaining what you did.

Thank you. There's one thing so certain. Every day is a learning day no matter what or how much anyone know. You might be better of living next to dusty because it's some frosty here this morning :D

Anyway I'll squeeze in another repair I did on a roller of a farm implement. A few weeks age we had a customer come in the shop dragging a 6 foot roller asking if I could repair it and right away. Seeing he is one of our best customers I said sure and dropped what I was doing and started in at it.

The end piece was completely off and it looked as if something jammed it up because it was blue with heat. The bearing didn't seize so it must have been something else that I wasn't sure of.

Problem number one was, My lathe was to short to swing this thing so I used a die grinder with a carbide rasp and removed the old welding on the side of the roller.

Problem number two was. How am I going to get the new shaft welded straight coming out from that pipe without a lathe? Well I got a brain fart and came up with what you see below.

I made the new shaft on the lathe. Then I machined two large washers. The inside one was 1/4" thick and the outside one was 1/2 " thick. Once I had all the machining done I put the machined items in the welding postioner and used the Millermatic 350P on pulse for most of the welding.

I then took the part and fit it tightly into the pipe and welded it again. It took all morning to do it but the customer was sure pleased when he came back to pick it up. Disclaimer:

Apologize if anyone finds this boring. I'll post some tractor things when I get the tractor out and using it

Wildfire, get on a plane and get out to this auction at Pyramid Machine Tool!! I'm trying to convince Mr K that we could use a CNC Machine and I could use a little help from someone who knows how to fabricate!!

Oh man you had to include the link didn't you! I got drewels all over my iPhone now:eek: I'm working on putting a CNC plasma table in the shop next. I put In a new knee mill this summer but went manual and not CNC. Most of my stuff is a "one off " so manual in my case was better. Some great looking equipment there. If you were in Toronto I might have come over but BC is a loooong ways away from Newfoundland :(. Thanks for the post and your kind words my friend.

If you want to have a look at the other stuff I really enjoy you can check out the link below. I've restored all of it and it's been a blast but I'm all out of room now so Ive slowed it down for awhile. Hope this works because I'm sending it from my phone. Thanks for your post my friend  Cheers. Paul

Brian I could only wish. You'd have to get on the ferry and come over for the shoot :D Glad you like it. Here's a few video's of a few restorations and builds that I did. They range from restoring an old forklift for my shop to restoring a 1969 Honda Z50 to add to the collection. There's other vids on my YouTube channel as well. Thanks for posting. Paul

Wildfire, noone gets tired of seeing what you or anyone else has built. It gives us ideas for our own projects. I just don't see how you work to make a living and do all those other pet projects also. I barely have time to mow the grass.

Thanks. Glad you enjoy looking at this stuff. As for the time. Ya that's the hard part. I don't do much laying around the house. Today I came out in the shop to do a little milling project I've been trying to do for a few months and although it took the full day to get it done I got it completed. I'll start another thread on it next. Thanks for posting and happy tractoring :D
