I ran across a bag of 55 grain Hornandy PSP's that I don't remember buying. Anyone run them on prairie dogs? Will they be frangible enough out of a 223?

Since I load for the 22.250 Im not real sure but I do know the Vmax has been pretty devastating on coyotes and deadly on groundhogs. The only experience with the PSP was with a friend. He dinged a groundhog about 200 yards and liked to tore it in half. I cannot attest to his load. however I would think it was 3000fps or a bit more. Good luck working up a load that works in your piece.

yeah, I've field tested vmaxes in .223 and .204. (all in the interest of science) and found them to open up quite well. I don't know if it makes sense for me to make a specific coyote load as I usually don't have any time to call them so all of them to date have been taken whilst hunting something else.

I hear what your saying, when Im down the farm cutting wood the 22.250 is most always in the truck. They dont seem to pay much attention to the saw, and when the lambs are out and about they get really stupid, especially the young ones that most times dont get much older. Not sure how many lambs my bud has lost in 18, I do know he said shoot anything that has 4 feet, teeth and looks like a dog!
Like you I did find some old bullets in the drawer, 50 gr BTHP dont know where they came from and were in a bag I had to weigh them. And for shyts and giggles I loaded some up, they were not any place close to being very accurate but when they hit,,WOW
