4wd trick

Not sure if everybody already knows this, but I found on my L2501, if I lift the front tires off the ground with the Loader a little bit, the 4wd goes in and out very smooth. I had experienced the usual issues, and followed the recommendation of the manual to try turning the wheels a little to aid in the shift, but talking all the binding stress off the wheels makes it much easier! Gluck and happy tractoring.

Never thought of that - but I will tell you, placing the steering wheel straight ahead make a big difference too when engaging 4wd!;)

Even better trick, Engage the 4wd and leave it there! ;)
I haven't taken my L out of 4wd since I rebuilt it. :D
Granted I have no hard packed ground anywhere in sight!

It's some times a pain on my L series. I would love it leave it engaged, but I tears up the ground to much.

My new M series is hands down better. Just pull the handle up and when finished, push it down. It will disengage on it own when its not in a bind.

My previous L3410 was temperamental shifting in and out of 4wd. Never thought of lifting the front... Great tip.
Last winter I rolled a front tire off the rim and spent considerable time getting a Jack to where the tractor was. I was somewhat rattled and also failed to think about using the fel. This was in the middle of a 35" blizzard event, so I ended up using ether to explode the bead on.

The trick that works for me is to apply a small amount of pressure to the 4x lever, while driving forward and turn the steering slightly off to one side a bit and and then the other side. It will pass through a point where everything lines up, and it will drop into 4x mode..

Do the same to disengage 4x.. As soon as the bind has gone away, it pulls out of 4x mode.

Same trick works on my 4x4 Toyota 4Runner.

Good idea if lifting front off ground does not work every time for me

I used to do that little trick on road calls to change out a tire on tractor-trailer on road side. Made me nervous but worked...

In those days I preferred the split rim tires (just had to slide it under the truck when inflating without a cage).

Guess this is where it helps to have a loader.and 4WD.
The L4610 i ran was a little cantankerous when it came to 4wd, and occasionaly used that method. Most often it got left in 4wd by other operators, making 4wd trenches by the gravel stockpile. A constant thorn in my side.

My bx2670 is easy to engage 4wd, anytime I'm moveing, just move the lever into 4wd, goes right in. To disengage, while moveing, lift your foot off the go pedal while pulling the 4wd lever back to 2wd. If your'e stopped, put pressure on the lever and move 2 feet opposite the direction you were going before stopping. Comes right out.

Not sure about the bx line, but on the L series, you are suppose to stop, clutch in, and then shift. Rocking, moving, or bumping is going against how Kubota wants us to shift. Not knowing a lot about these transmissions, I am just trying to follow the rules. Same applies for shifting gears (h-m-l) suppose to use the clutch.

Normally I put my M7040 in and out of 4wd and let it decide when to let it happen. Sometimes when going unto a paved road and the 4wd is still engaged even though I push the lever to off, it does not steer very well and if the loader bucket is full it is even worse.

Today I tried your trick and it instantly disengaged. Good idea. Thanks for sharing it!

All the 4wd Kubota's my son has had you just drive straight forward a few feet and then backup a few feet and the 4wd engagement lever will drop right out with no resistance.

I've always told him not to run 4wd unless he needs it. A lot of time his L3940 is used on a concrete cattle feedlot, actually 365 days a year. The dirt road to the big hay shed can get a little sloppy at times and needs 4wd. Also loading the 155 bushel manure spreader you need 4wd concrete or not. Naturally when moving loads on the FEL downhill I've told him to always use 4wd so if the rear unweights slightly or completely he'll still have front wheel braking.

No issues at all with my B2650 going in and out of 4wd. It is a little cranky going thru H-M-L. I find I have to hold my tongue in just the right spot and rub my head a bit.

On my B2650 what I do is start going forward slowly and as I start to lift off the HST pedal, slip it right into 4WD. Works like a charm. To get out of 4WD just repeat the step.
